It’s great to see the app is evolving. I was waiting for the multiple GPX files option. However, to me the current approach to tile caching can be a real show-stopper sometimes. I’ll risk the assumption that the geocaching features are useful to some subset of users only (I, for one, don’t care much about that) while we’ll all benefit from the proper tile storage system. Pretty please, prioritize the SQLite storage implementation high on your ToDo list 😉

      Keep up the good work

I used Maverick on a recent London to Brighton ride using a map exported from Google Maps. An issue I found was that the drawing algorithm relies on two points being on the screen at the same time. So if the second waypoint was far from the first one, the line I was following would just disappear. The way round was to zoom out, but it was a little annoying, because I had cached all tiles at a specific zoom level.

Also on another note, is it possible to include the open cycle map as a map option? It would be very useful when in town to be able to locate cycle routes without having to rely on paper maps.

Overall though I love your product and will be purchasing it in the near future. Keep up the good work.

Just installed this and seems to work really well (and I’m a Garmin 60CSX owner).

      2 questions:
1 – is there an option to switch off data downloading, to rely on cached maps only?
2.- are there different cached maps at different scales i.e. if I download a large area when zoomed out, are all the component maps there already for zooming in, without additional data downloads?
(traveling to Canada soon, and want to preload the maps!)
      thanks!

Would it be possible to impliment an audible alarm should you stray too far from the active track/GPX file. I use Maverick whilst cycling, and it’d be nice for when times that I’m not following the screen directions, if it were to alert me before I’ve strayed too far off the beaten track/road.

    7. Hans on August 14, 2010 01:56

Very nice program, just like alpinequest, but then with far better looks and options.

What I don’t like it that all tiles are stored separate.
Look at alpinequest, they adapted mobile atlas to put all selected maps in 1 file
Instead of putting 30000 tiles on a SD card, you can use 1 mapfile (saves lots of space)

An option to block all internet access is also needed, if a tile is not there just show a default tile with a red cross or something.

Maverick 1.55 (using OSM Mapnik maps) works great so far.
One problem I couldn’t get solved so far:

How to switch to current location (determined by network provider, _not_ by GPS)?

Only after using another app (e.g. Google Maps) to get the current location Maverick shows the current location correctly.

    10. Col on August 29, 2010 18:54

      Fantastic software.

as managing/merging offline maps can be a real pain due to the size and number of tiles, I have a feature request:

      1) the possibility to add your own map directory and have it show up on the ‘map source’ page. eg. i put my offline cache of google terrain for the uk in SDcard/maverick/tiles/my_maps/my_uk/…., then on the ‘map source’ page i could choose ‘my maps>my_uk’….. this would be very very handy….

I really like the this GPS application, best I have found for the droid! Two things on my wishlist:

      1. Portrait style, so I can turn my phone sideways.
      2. Topo maps option. I DLed some using the map generator in your tutorial and loaded them as wikimaps. They are great maps, I’d love to have them as a map option!

Thanks again for the app and keep up the great work!

      Hi

I really like your product and I am using it a lot in helicopter aviation.

But I have two requests to make additional changes for it –

      1. can you please make in settings a button for switching to landscape mode (and a landscape mode itself too) ?
      2. And also I would like in compass mode that the arrow is looking all the time up (my heading) – so it will be more easy to change a flight direction to go to saved point of interest directly.

And – yes – I am ready to pay for those two changes – lets say 300 EUR to your account.

      Thanks
I hope it will be interesting for you

      Hi there
This app is the best !!!!!!!!
One Q: does anyone have a little info about the “radar” or “compass” screen. In the center sometimes is triangle, sometimes nothing and somtimes pulsating circles. I have googled this to hell but came up emty 🙁
      Please help

    15. Jeff on September 6, 2010 01:05

      @Guðmundur Updated help page: http://help.codesector.com/MaverickRadar

Nov 1: @Pauls Added landscape mode and locking compass to heading in version 1.6.

    16. Guðmundur on September 6, 2010 01:26

      Thanks 🙂
This solves part of the problem ….. the bigger part 🙂
I know the blue dot is the “goto” point, but what does it mean when pulsating circles comes out from the center of the compass ( and there are no triangle at the time ) ?
      Thanks again

    17. Guðmundur on September 6, 2010 01:48

….. unless that means you are standing still … ??? no movement ?

    18. Jeff on September 6, 2010 02:13

Yes, bearing is calculated by GPS when you’re moving.

    19. Guðmundur on September 6, 2010 02:24

      Thanks 😀 !!!!!!!!

    20. Michael on September 6, 2010 11:18

Does really nobody can give any hint about my question back from August 20th regarding the not working current location determined by network provider (GSM) only?

    21. Michal on September 8, 2010 11:47

      Hi, guys!
Have you tried pro version 1.55 on xperia x10 mini? I’ve tried only trial, which is not 1.55, but it has problem with map scrolling. So now I don’t know if this problem is solved in pro version or not. I don’t want to pay 5$ and then find out that is doesn.t work 🙁

    22. whiteze on September 14, 2010 00:55

Hi, i cant get to work files from http://www.walkingenglishman.com/index.aspx , tried few already, i can see track when file is open in Mobile Atlas Creator but when i copy it into my SD card it loads correctly but cant see track. Otherwise great application. ps. I’m on pro version.

      Thanks

In the screen next to the radar screen you can choose fields for all kind of data, one of them are sunset and one sunrise, … they dont display any data. Is there a solution for this, cause that data is wery valid for me ??

    24. Peter on September 17, 2010 14:23

Hi, very impressed with Maverick and its caching ability – using it on HTC Desire. But confused about downloading offline maps – where to store on SD card? Using a folder …/o/o/… doesn’t fit with the structure already set up by the automatic caching. I want to download maps for forthcoming hol in Maryland USA but not too keen to spend the time doing it if I can’t be sure Maverick will find it on the SD card. Hope you can explain this for me. Regards, Peter.

    25. Guðmundur on September 17, 2010 17:28

The path I used was: /sdcard/maverik/tiles … and then you choose the right folder acording to what maps you are using(downloading) F.ex. googlemaps_hybrid or googlemaps_terrain or wikimapia_map or …..

Any answer about my last Q Jeff ??

    26. Peter on September 19, 2010 11:59

Hi – on the online help system you are told to place the downloaded maps into, for example, …mapnik/o/o/o.png.tile. I don’t understand why you’re asked to create those extra folders …/o/o/…

    27. Guðmundur on September 19, 2010 15:07

It works to put them into /sdcard/maverik/tiles …..
Have you tried that ? and did it work for you ?
Peter: if you go to the sunset or sunrise window oon the screen next to the radar screen, do you get any time there ?

    28. Anonymous on September 19, 2010 23:56

Hi again. I haven’t tried it because the online help doesn’t make sense to me and I don’t want to spend time doing large downloads that might not work. The structure of automatically cached maps on the SD card is (for mapnik for example): /sdcard/maverick/tiles/mapnik/[a number that I think represents the zoom level]/[a number that I think represents the region]/[a number that I think identifies the tile].png.tile. What I didn’t understand is the online help asking you to use e.g. sdcard/maverick/tiles/mapnik/0/0/0.png.tile. Have I been stupid here? Do the three ‘0’s merely represent the appropriate numbers and are not actually zero’s? Regards.
      @Guðmundur

    29. Peter on September 20, 2010 00:01

Hi again – I think I have probably been a bit ‘imperceptive’ here – presumably the online help showing zeros in …/0/0/0.png.tile are generic and correspond to the relevant numbers that are folder names automatically generated when Maverick caches a map. I think I understand now. Sorry to be a bit ‘blonde’. Regards. @Guðmundur

    30. Peter on September 20, 2010 12:38

Now I find a new problem that I would like anybody out there to answer for me. I have downloaded a large number of Microsoft Map tiles – to the folder that Maverick already created, and is shown in the offline help: microsoft_map. However, neither Microsoft Maps nor microsoft_map is displayed in the Maps option screens. How do I make Maverick look at the Microsoft Maps, then? Anybody out there who can help?

      HelloOo everyone…

Until today I was like all the other commenters.. could not make offline maps anymore using Mobile Atlas Creator …

Here is the solution (my exemple are for Google Map Hybrid):

Until now , the maps created by MAC, had these names :

      173.png.tile (png here)

now if you want your offlines map to work, you onluy have to rename this way :

      173.jpg.tile (jpg here)

Be careful because the folder created by MAC, is not named correctly anymore :
MAC creates a folder named Google Hybrid
The GOOD name should be googlemaps_hybrid

Another thing that is strange, if that for googlemaps tiles.. the filenames are working if they are names this way 173.png.tile (with png inside)

      Just my 0.02€ !!
      Good Luck with this
