Because this is a “generic” (so to speak) detection, the file has not been 100% confirmed to be malware by the virus analysts (e.g. it has not yet been given a name), so there is a chance that the file is being mistakenly detected and it is not actually malicious.

VirusTotal report. You can turn off heuristic scanning or add exception for DF.

Let me introduce our new project. Have you ever had files like “Unknown artist - unknown track.mp3″? SoundMaven can recognize music files by its content using an “acoustic fingerprint” technology or find missing tags, e.g. find an album title if only artist and track tags are present.

Few days ago AVG reported the Klone.P virus in TeraCopy and Direct Folders. It was quickly fixed with next AVG update, but now it detects Klone.Z virus in same files. Personally I wouldn’t trust antivirus that can’t make decision about virus name. :) You may check your files at virusscan.jotti.org or at www.virustotal.com.

If you want to report the false positive please read here (thanks Jonathan for link).

You can disable AVG from scanning some folders. To do this:
1. Start AVG user interface
2. Select ‘Tools’ - Advanced settings
3. Select ‘Resident Shield’ - ‘Exceptions’
4. Click on ‘Add Path’
5. Browse to the path to be excluded from AVG scanning
6. Click on OK

Vista x64 support will be added later.

This little program lets you rearrange buttons on your Windows taskbar. You can shuffle your tray icons as well with Ctrl key pressed. Middle mouse click on a taskbar button/group will close it. Very handy when you need to close lot of running apps. Splash screen and tray icon can be turned off.

After rewriting TC’s engine I figured out that it needs more informative progress bars. It will now display the amount of both read and written data.

This version is still in development, any suggestions are welcomed.

Update: v2.0 beta is released

Yesterday I’ve read a few lines about Pidgin in a computer magazine and immediately downloaded it, because it looked very promising. Support of multiple protocols (AIM, ICQ, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, Google Talk) is exactly what I need for technical support purposes.

Some time ago Trillian was the good option, but then I discovered QIP, which was much better in many aspects. Unfortunately, QIP works with the ICQ protocol only, but I still highly recommend it to the ICQ fans who do not like to mess with plugins. QIP already has a lot of nice features in the standard package.

Pidgin looks rather simple right after install, but it comes with plenty of plugins. There are many useful ones, so check them out. Additionaly, I’ve downloaded Guifications, a customizable plugin for “toaster” popup notifications. You can see here how it looks.

Synergy lets you easily share a single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers with different operating systems, each with its own display, without special hardware. It’s intended for users with multiple computers on their desk since each system uses its own monitor(s).

With synergy, all the computers on your desktop form a single virtual screen. You use the mouse and keyboard of only one of the computers while you use all of the monitors on all of the computers. You tell synergy how many screens you have and their positions relative to one another. Synergy then detects when the mouse moves off the edge of a screen and jumps it instantly to the neighboring screen. The keyboard works normally on each screen; input goes to whichever screen has the cursor.

Do you wish you could cut and paste between computers? Now you can! Just copy text, HTML, or an image as you normally would on one screen then switch to another screen and paste it. It’s as if all your computers shared a single clipboard. And it does it all in Unicode so any text can be copied.
