I’m still unable to make it work for non-admin users on 64-bit Windows XP. I wonder what the problem is? It’s a bit bothersome to run explorer.exe as administrator every time I copy or move files.

Make sure you run reg file from 64-bit Explorer. Check these values in registry:

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{A7645AF0-D6E8-48AF-8DFA-023B1CF660A7}\InProcServer32]
    @=”C:\\Program Files\\TeraCopy\\TeraCopy64.dll”
    “ThreadingModel”=”Apartment”

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\DragDropHandlers\TeraCopy64]
    @=”{A7645AF0-D6E8-48AF-8DFA-023B1CF660A7}”

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\DragDropHandlers\TeraCopy64]
    @=”{A7645AF0-D6E8-48AF-8DFA-023B1CF660A7}”

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shellex\DragDropHandlers\TeraCopy64]
    @=”{A7645AF0-D6E8-48AF-8DFA-023B1CF660A7}”

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\DragDropHandlers\TeraCopy64]
    @=”{A7645AF0-D6E8-48AF-8DFA-023B1CF660A7}”

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Approved]
    “{A7645AF0-D6E8-48AF-8DFA-023B1CF660A7}”=”TeraCopy64″

If still wont work, please use this debug dll and let me know about results.

Jeff: I checked all those registry values and they were ok. Next I tried running TeraCopy with the debug dll. First I got window with text ‘Initialize’ and I clicked OK to that. Then I got ‘Initialize OK’ and clicked OK again. After that I got ‘QueryContextMenu’, clicked OK and then the window disappeared and no files were copied. I also tried running explorer.exe as administrator and the same operation worked out perfectly well.

When TeraCopy Portable 2.0 beta 3 is integrated with Total Commander, I cannot use Copy/Move button on the default button bar to handle files with non-Unicode charchers. I wonder whether it is because TC does not support Unicode or because TeraCopy Portable cannot deal with files with non-Unicode charchers properly with integrated with TC. Anyway, I hope someday the problem will be solved.

There is now a button in Options that toggles to show “32-bit” and “64-bit” . What exactly is being toggled, and do you press the button when it says “32-bit” to get “32-bit” or does the button indicate the current value ?

Also, what does “Clean Up” button actually do ?

    Lastly, you added:
    “DeleteIncompleteFiles=N
Ask to delete incomplete files only if copy took longer then N seconds. Set to 0 to never delete incomplete files.”
This makes no sense. What does the length of time have to do with it ? Either the user cancelled the copy or he did not, and either he wants the files deleted or not. By the way, this should delete FULLY COPIED FILES, if a copy of multiple files (i.e. a folder) was cancelled.

And thanks for your work on Tera Copy !

By the way, Beta 4 still has no information in the dialog if the file(s) are moved on the same disk drive.

I ran Teracopy 2.0 Beta 3 with no problem under Vista 64. I uninstalled 3 and installed Beta 4, and now all I get is:

“Teracopy has stopped working, and the program quits!”

Can anyone guide me here?” I am not familiar with the debug dll routine, although I am a bit experienced with PC’s.

I uninstalled 4 and tried to reinstall 3, but I now get the SAME result! Wha’ happened??

    Thanks!

First I got window with text ‘Initialize’ and I clicked OK to that. Then I got ‘Initialize OK’ and clicked OK again. After that I got ‘QueryContextMenu’, clicked OK and then the window disappeared and no files were copied.

This indicated that DLL is loaded correctly and should add “TeraCopy Here” to the right-button-drag menu. Is it happens?

When TeraCopy Portable 2.0 beta 3 is integrated with Total Commander, I cannot use Copy/Move button on the default button bar to handle files with non-Unicode charchers.

Total Commander didn’t generated Unicode file list that TeraCopy uses. I guess we need to wait for Total Commander 7.5.

What does the length of time have to do with it ? Either the user cancelled the copy or he did not, and either he wants the files deleted or not.

Setting it to 0 will keep all incomplete files. Otherwise TC will delete these files, but will ask a confirmation if copy took longer than 60 seconds (default setting). Imagine that you was copying file from network for several hours and incidentally canceled copy.

‘This indicated that DLL is loaded correctly and should add “TeraCopy Here” to the right-button-drag menu. Is it happens?’

Yes. ‘TeraCopy Here’ is added to the menu in both administrator and normal user accounts. However, it only works in administrator account. In normal user account it does nothing. I wonder what could be the problem? There’s not even an error message. Just.. nothing happens.

    Jeff:
I am using Vista 64-bit along with Intel’s motherboard RAID and an Adaptec RAID controller and a Silicon Image eSATA controller.

I was trying to copy about 320 GB of files (6846 files) from a eSATA dock to one of the RAID volumes. Using the Vista copy function I could only copy about 70 GB before Vista would crash. No BSOD, no warning, just reboot. Nothing in the Event Log would be found. Sometimes just copying a few hundred files would cause the crash.

I am happy to report that I downloaded your TeraCopy 2 beta 4 tonight (8/3/08) and I succeded in copying all the files the first time I tried! Plus it seemed like it was faster than regular Vista. I didn’t time it so I can’t be sure about that!

    Thankyou Thankyou

I will be buying your Pro version.

    Thanks again!

    Hey guys,

I’m using TC since about an half year now (bought the commercial licence for using it at work some weeks ago)..
But till now, there are about 2 or 3 bugs when using Vista (x64) I’ve reported to Jeff which are quite easy to resolve, though they’re still not fixed..

One is about TC not asking for admin-rights if a destination-folder is UAC-protected (Don’t suggest me to turn UAC off, because that’s ridiculous!).. Another one is about having TC’s context menu-integration working when dragging files with the right mouse-button pressed, but not being always integrated into the context menu which pops up when you directly right-click a file (though, sometimes that works)..

So, when will these bugs (especially that UAC-one, because that’s pretty easy to resolve by just adding an elevation-prompt to TC whenever the destination is UAC-protected) get fixed, Jeff?

Additionally, I’d like to request TC being able not only to check, but also to calculate MD5-sums of files.

    Thanks in advance,
    Martin..

Is there a way to stop v2 opening up multiple windows for different copy operations? v1 used to add them all in the same windows. Also as a registered v1 pro user, is there/will there a be a v2 pro version?

  13. August 5th, 2008 at 12:24 | #13

Yes. ‘TeraCopy Here’ is added to the menu in both administrator and normal user accounts. However, it only works in administrator account. In normal user account it does nothing.

Just fixed this, please test on your system.

So, when will these bugs (especially that UAC-one, because that’s pretty easy to resolve by just adding an elevation-prompt to TC whenever the destination is UAC-protected) get fixed, Jeff?

Well, XP doesn’t have this “bug” :) Added “Run as Admin” button to restart TC in elevated mode.

Is there a way to stop v2 opening up multiple windows for different copy operations? v1 used to add them all in the same windows. Also as a registered v1 pro user, is there/will there a be a v2 pro version?

I’ll add better handling for multiple operations soon. You can register any 2.0 beta version with your key.

when i installed beta 4 of tera copy I got another virus warning for the program and i was pissed off so now I can’t put beta 4 on my computer intill you guys fix this problem so please fix this problem because I love this program and I really want to use it.

  19. August 6th, 2008 at 10:43 | #19

    1. crashes if I try to move larger amount of files at once
    2. I got another virus warning for the program

Both problems are related to a protection/registration system we’re using. Incidentally packed beta 4 with an old version that causes some PFM-kind errors. Repacked TC with the latest version, so please download beta 4 again.
Some antiviruses barking on this protection as well – just see the report for same TeraCopy.exe v2 beta 4, but unprotected:

That crash-thing also happened here, but I tried it again and then it worked just fine.. – The file in case was an Acronis image-file with around 3.5 GB..

Jeff, what about my feature request(s) – that MD5-thing and context-menu option within TC’s window for selecting a CRC-sum and copying it to the clipboard?
Additionally, your solution is good, but not really the most comfortable way – TC should check if the destination is UAC-protected (i.e. it can write there or not) just like setups (7-Zip’s for example) do and in case it can’t, it should request administrative rights.. :)

    Best regards,
    Martin.. :)

P.S.: I tried to include my full name in the reply-box, but that seems to crash your WP-Spam-Free plugin, because without my last name, everything works just fine..

    August 7th, 2008 at 19:20 | #24

TeraCopy’s copying speed is nice, and I had no problems with crashing, but I noticed something annoying: copies of large files created by TeraCopy tend to be heavily fragmented, even if the destination drive has plenty of contiguous free space and nothing else is writing to it at the same time. Looks like TeraCopy isn’t calling the SetFileValidData API which lets NTFS know in advance how large the file will be, giving NTFS a chance to allocate efficiently. See http://msftmvp.com/Documents/NTFSFrag.pdf for details. In my testing on 32-bit XP, Server 2003, and Vista, programs such as uTorrent, RoboCopy from the Windows Resource Kit, and even XCOPY are able to avoid/minimize fragmentation in the exact same scenarios where programs like TeraCopy and Orbit Downloader do not.

  25. August 8th, 2008 at 06:25 | #25

Just tried 2.0 beta 4 today. I wanted to move 30 gigs of mp3s from a local drive to a network drive over a 15mbps network connection. On multiple occasions TC crashed and hung up completely. The only way to kill it was from the task manager. Uninstalled 2.0 and went back to 1.22. It worked flawlessly.

Also, please bring back the cache size changer in v2.0 please!

    Hey Jeff,

Tried this on x64 Vista tonight and having a few problems. Namely, no matter what I do I can’t get it to register in the shell. I installed it, went into options to register the copy handler. It then asked me to do it in 64-bit explorer. So I went to the program folder and ran the DefaultHandler.reg. I check all registry entries and they’re correct. Yet, I still don’t get the context menu when right clicking or have it operate as the default manager.

    Any ideas?

Hey, quick update. I noticed that the context menu is available when opening my computer and navigating through explorer. Is there a reason the shell option isn’t available otherwise? I have UAC disabled and whatnot, but when going through links or navigating folders on the desktop it doesn’t show the teracopy move options.

Hi! Some things I would like to see in TeraCopy (are they part of Pro version?)

-There should be a way to keep TeraCopy open even when only a small number of small files are copied (in that case, TeraCopy’s “Less” view is usually auto-closed again before I get a chance to click the “More” button…). Or, alternatively, there should be a way to re-open TeraCopy with the last action’s entries still in there (the point being that I would like to be able to check the list for copy errors or to run CRC checks afterwards).

-There should be an option that a CRC check is run automatically after copying is done.

-If large amounts of files are copied, it’s not trivial to find out if the CRC check has failed for any file (scrolling through the whole list seems to be the only way, but this might take a long time if the number of files is large…). There should be some kind of summary, or it should be possible to sort the list by “Status”.

-Besides a CRC check, an actual, full 1:1 check of the files’ actual bytes should be possible as well.

    Thanks!

One thing I really miss is an option to always test copied files *but* only leave the windows open after the copy if there is a problem with the copy/test.

Today If I want to test always (and I do) I have to close the window manually every time, even if there’s nothing to see after the test is done without problems.

It would make easier to realize that an error occurred too: if the windows plays the sound and disappears, all went well. If not, the open window would force me to pay attention.

    @Chris:

you are a happy user: every request you made already exists.

There are tree options between the progress bars that controls close, test and shutdown. You only have to click on the words to activate/deactivate permanently.

After copying a large number of files, just hit the Clean Up button to eliminate the lines without problems and leave only the errors.

    Hi!

I just found TeraCopy, what a nice software! Keep up the good work!
But I have couple small feature requests:

When auto renaming, I’d like when it renames file by adding _1 ( or smth like that) to the end. Then I can later easily compare the files (they are next to each other when I sort by name)

And I’d like to see such behaviour when copying files over:
when files have same name but different date, it overwrites and when files have same name and different size, it renames them.
Maybe such thing is possible already, but then I haven’t discovered it :)

Teracopy 2.0 beta 4 free version.
    OS: XP SP2

    Task:
Copy a folder containing 12,916 files and 1,189 folders (18.4GB) between physical drives.
Source folder contained outlook.pst which was in use.

    Result:
Teracopy stops at outlook.pst and hangs with very high (variable) CPU usage.
Status column for outlook.pst shows “Source: The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file”.

Saved the report and closed TeraCopy.
Restarted TeraCopy and loaded saved report.
Click ‘Copy’ and skip ‘All’ existing files in the ‘File Already Exists’ dialog (I suppose I could have used ‘Clean Up’).
    Copy proceeds successfully.

While I’m here a quick comment on the GUI:
The interface is nicely clean and efficient (a big plus), but needs some refinement. The most glaring issue is the interactive text (eg. ‘Always Ask’ and the destination folder). It should look distinct from plain text labels (eg ‘Transfer completed’. ‘Always Ask’ does not even show a tooltip for me.

    Wishlist:
I would like to import the report file into Excel, so some headings would be good.
A report summary, eg number of files, time taken number of files skipped, CRC check failed etc.

Thanks for providing a free version :))

Problem with Teracopy and Windows Home Sever

Windows home sever creates a D: drive according to the free space on Drive 1 or if you dont have a Drive 1, the free partition space from Drive 0. So lets says that’s 100GB for example. Now I add 500GB. The way home server works is that it will always show the drive being only 100GB and always 100GB free (not matter how much data is present) – but if you look in the home sever console, it will show 600GB in size.

Now copying/moving is not an issue in Windows because Windows does not check availabile free space first, but using teracopy presents an issue when you attempt to copy more data that you have free space (makes sense for Windows but not for Windows home sever). So I go to copy 200GB, but Teracopy only sees 100GB free.

Don’t know how to solve this problem other than teracopy allowing for an option preventing the check of available space before copying begins.

If I can suggest 2 other changes – an option for teracopy to remember what it was doing after closing in the middle of an operation. Ex. I start a copy of 10 files and cancel in the middle. I would like Teracopy to prompt me to save the session which I can then pickup later and copy the remaining files.

The last is for teracopy to add some sense of how well your copy is going. Ex. Right now my local copies are between 10MB to 13MB per second. How do I know if this is good? It would be great if Teracopy indicated copy health (perhaps colors – green for average to great (i.e. fast), yellow for below average (i.e. ok to a litle slow), and red for stopped or really below average (i.e. slow to stopped).

    Thanks – This program rocks.

Getting close to matching my needs, very good !

If two things are done, then I will buy Pro version:

1 – Teracopy log “Test Successfully Completed” line should include summary of results of test, i.e. “44 files match, 0 errors”.

2 – Do the ” SetFileValidData API ” call mentioned above by another user to prevent fragmentation.

    Look in the help page:
    http://help.codesector.com/TeraCopy

in the “Configuration” section there are some parameters to alter the default behaviour. Unfortunately you will have to manually edit the config file…

  46. Ken

Chris – you need to set OPTIONS.

mikuda – most of us want teracopy to stay after it is finished, so we can see whether or not the copy worked properly – too often when using PCs something goes wrong ! but check the OPTIONS to see if there is already that capability that you want.

Each time i use it copy files (about 100gb) to my samsung 120GB sata portable drive after few weeks i loose my partition data.
which means i will have to re-format the drive..
Usually i use high speed for coping (more than 256kbs)
m wondering if this has to do wit using tera copy….?

Hi, I’m using the TeraCopy Pro for a while now, its got some really nice features.

I’ve also noticed the fragmentation problem “Ronny Ong” mentioned in post 24.
I really hope this will be solved soon :-)

    Regards,
    David.

    Hi -
I installed teracopy 2 beta 4 & it was working fine copying a bunch of data from my external USB drive to an internal drive.

I left a test of the files running overnight & it complete successully, but when I then tried to copy a different folder the machine immediately rebooted and when it came up teracopy was missing from the windows shell. I reinstalled 2 beta with same results then I uninstalled the 2 beta & installed 1.22 with the same results.

Any ideas? (running windows xp pro sp3)

Hei. Is there a way to force TC to use a spesific I/O Size? My ICH10 Raid5 write performance in Vista64 sucks when using the default IO size.. Atto and other io benchmarks clearly show that using 512KB I/O Size skyrockets the performance..
Btw is there a 64bit version of the b4 ?

  54. August 30th, 2008 at 18:59 | #54

I run copy&test in compact window. But before run test, I change one file on destination. The result this : “Test successfully completed”. lol. I click “More” button. I dont see problem! if I click history, I see : file size mismatch…

    - Teracopy log “Test Successfully Completed” line should include summary of results of test, i.e. “44 files match, 0 errors”.

The most glaring issue is the interactive text (eg. ‘Always Ask’ and the destination folder). It should look distinct from plain text labels (eg ‘Transfer completed’. ‘Always Ask’ does not even show a tooltip for me.

Fixed all these errors in the beta 4a.

When will you provide a portable version ?

You can install portable version and replace TeraCopy.exe with any version you like. Empty file ‘portable’ in the TeraCopy directory will make it portable, e.g. don’t use Registry and Application Data folder.

BUFFER SETTINGS? How do you control the buffer? So screenshots on the net who a slider, other people say to modify an ini. I see nothing.

Please let me know how I can change the buffer. Thanks.

  56. August 31st, 2008 at 15:39 | #56

Buffer size can be changed in the v1.x only (by slider, or permanently in the ini file). TeraCopy 2 reads/writes entire file at once if it less than 10 MB. If bigger, it will read file in 30 MB buffer by 10 MB chunks. If source and target on the same physical drive, write thread waits until buffer is full.

Both Teracopy 2.0b3 and 2.0b4 give me a BSOD when I try to copy large files onto a USB stick. The stop error is 0×00000035 (0×88063010 [all further parameters are 0x0]) with the message NO_MORE_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS.

System is Windows XP Pro SP3 on a Centrino2 Core2 Duo Laptop. Regular file copies to the USB stick work without a problem, terracopy works OK on all other drives (internal AHCI SATA, external USB drives), but fails on larger files copied to the USB stick (large being about 100 MB or so, it is hard to tell). The USB stick is a Patriot XT 8GB.

It’d be good to have a ‘Suspend Computer’ when copy is complete, rather than just shutdown.

Love teracopy, one of the few programs i actually licensed in a long while. I still get a recurring bug on all my computers when i copy to a network folder it would not actually copy to the remote computer. I seems to be moving/copying it to some local cache or nethood. It would happen probably 80-90% of the time. Any idea what this is?

  60. September 11th, 2008 at 04:35 | #60

I found that TeraCopy 2 changes mode to skip all when moving a folder with lots of files (5000+). I think the timer counts too early. It should start counting after the action dialog appeared but not after adding all files into list.

    Resume functionality
I have tested most of your beta’s with the following test. Copy a large file over the network and pull out the network cable. I want Teracopy to resume automatically or resume with a resume button. Teracopy has always failed this test. I tried KillCopy which can do this no problem. Surely TeraCopy should be able to do this? KillCopy has other problems and I prefer TeraCopy but this is a show stopper for me.

Scenario…. Copying a 6Gb iso image over a network at a Lan party and you get disconnected for some reason. Would be great if TC was to resume automatically when PC came online again.

    Thanks

    Jeff,

this is _not_ what I expected – as a paying customer, I thought that I’m supporting your development (especially that one of TeraCopy) and that feature requests / bug-reports (if reported by a paying customer) get fixed a) faster and b) at least fixed!

But none of a) or b) happens, as all my tickets are still open, still unconfirmed, still unfixed!

I’m feeling very bad about this. :(

    /Martin..

Just had a look at Teracopy as a replacement for my robocopy jobs.
I like the explorer integration which makes copying very easy.
Unfortunately it does not handle dragNdrop copy in IdosWin which I use as an explorer replacement on all my machines.
From my understanding IdosWin is very much 2 Explorers in one Window with some nice extras, so I think it should possible to intercept its dragNdrop like it is done in the regular windows explorer.
Until then I guess I will stick to robocopy for my large file transfers.

When TeraMove’ing a folder containing many a few hundred jpegs from my local hard disk (Vista x32) to my NAS using a UNC path e.g. \\TERASTATION\usbdisk2, TeraCopy creates the destination folder but then complains that it “cannot move file between drives”. Is this a bug as I could move a single file to the same UNC path? I’m not running it as admin but I don’t need to in order to use Vista’s own move command.

I’ve read through all the replies, but I still can’t get TeraCopy to integrate into the right-click menu or act as default copy/move handler. I use Vista 64-bit on an AMD Athlon X2 cpu.

I’ve applied the reg file and checked with regedit that the correct keys are there. I’ve tried using the debug dll file, but it doesn’t seem like it’s even being loaded. I installed both the MSVC redistributables and rebooted. I just tried reinstalling TeraCopy. But no luck, neither when clicking nor dragging with the right button :(

Is there anything else I can try to help you figure out the cause?

Hi, guys, after playing with registry keys, installing MS stuff, etc, teracopy is working correctly on my Vista x64 sp1. But i have added incidentally some garbage and now right clicking on any item in explorer i’m getting popup with the following info: Initialize: SHGetPathFromIDListW. How can i remove it?

Hi there, I hope this is the correct place to be posting this but I have a suggestion/request. I know you must get many but I think this would be of use to many people. Is it possible for you to include a feature in teracopy to “do something” after a file copy/move operation is complete? For example, run a program? A simple textbox or browse dialog would suffice. For example, I would like to be notified of file transfer completion on my cell phone. I have written a script to do so but teracopy needs to call it when it’s done with the move. Would you possibly consider this?

    Kind regards
    Linden

Okay, this is really weird. Teracopy now appears in my context menus, but 7-zip is gone :S

I thought there might be some limit to the number of extra entries in the context menu (although it seemed unlikely), so I tried removing the WinRAR entry. But no difference.

I dunno, maybe it’s just my system. But it might be worth looking into.

    September 20th, 2008 at 16:16 | #70

I sort of expected this, but after a reboot 7-zip is back and TeraCopy is gone, so there’s definitely something going on there.

We just purchased 30 TeraCopy licenses, and had been using v.1.22-1.25. Mostly we copy large 2GB+ files between servers using mapped drives. Being able to increase the buffer size to 20MB doubled our throughput for network copies. Since upgrading to v.2.04ba, it has reduced our copy speed by 50%. Can you please bring back the option to manually set the buffer size by the slider in the GUI, and/or via the options.ini file? We want to keep using v.2.04ba because of the addition of multi-threaded copies, but don’t want to sacrifice the copy speed that v.1.25 allowed. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi!

Latest beta4a is good. I see compare bug id solved, good. Show success copy or not…good. When I copy&test very large file (~400GB) this app is great. CPU usage only ~15% with my core2 3.2Ghz (with explorer copy this 50%) and system file cache size not max.

    Problem…
    - few time copy with this app is slow.

    - speed show is only average. Please show actual speed too, ex (Now:50MB/s Average:33MB/s) or (50MB/s-33MB/s). Good idea this configure settings in options.

    - in options.ini I set TestAlways=1
    OK.
    I set WaitBeforeClose=1
    OK.
Copy start, but “close” is not grayed in window, and after finish the window is closed…

    Thanks!

It’d be good to have a ‘Suspend Computer’ when copy is complete, rather than just shutdown.
Is it possible for you to include a feature in teracopy to “do something” after a file copy/move operation is complete?.

You can change ShutdownApp in the TeraCopy config file, e.g. for suspending/hibernating system:
    ShutdownApp=rundll32.exe PowrProf SetSuspendState
    I’ll add separate option later.

Would be great if TC was to resume automatically when PC came online again.
is it possible to add “wait” option so if i lose connection to a wireless laptop it will just resume when wireless laptop comes back?
Can you please bring back the option to manually set the buffer size by the slider in the GUI, and/or via the options.ini file?

Yes, it’s in the to-do list.

There is a potential problem for unexpert users when installing Teracopy in a different folder than the default one.
In this case, file DefaultHandler.reg (and DefaultHandlerOff.reg) that need to be associated to the registry, should be modified to reflect the installation folder choosen.
Is it possible to generate these .reg file automaticcaly, after user choos oh folder installation?

    Hi,

I’m working with the actual beta, and there I have a problem. I move many folders from one drive to another. In every folder there are some files. It often happens that on the destinatin drive is not enough space. TC shows it and waits. But before it says that there is not enough space it creates all the folders, which I want to move, on the destinatition drive. When I cancel TC, because I want to change the destination drive, or to change the count of the folders, TC leaves the empty folders on the drive. I think you should create a folder only before you move it.

hi, im a pro user (xp) using 1.22
    love the program,

iv just tryed the latest bete 4, i like it,

    except:
    1) opens up mult windows, instead of just adding the files/moved to que. (this is a big feature for me) as i move 300g+

    2) old version just stops, if you run out of space on the hdd that you are moving files to? has this been fix in new version? (ie just stops copying file, say 1/2 wsy, no warning message ?

    3) i like manual control of buffer, can you add a lock to set buffer size, (ie copying files to my usb hdd , goes to auto /256 when i set it to 20 , overall copying of files are faster. 21mb/sec vs 26 mb/sec

does the new version losses the manual control, and set to auto,

it would be nice to see the manual control back, with a option to fix the buffer to a set amount.?

    4) iv just reinstall the old version over the beta , its lost my reg info?

i dont know where my reg file is, can i download it again?

Using 2.0 beta 4a (the same happened with beta 2.03) if I have TC in explorer’s context menu AT ALL all my “open with” options for ANY filetype are blank, no apps are listed at all, and I cannot even browse to PICK an app using the “open with … open with” sub-menu (if you follow me). If I use shellexview to disable TC’s context-menu options, all my “open with” lists appear like magic, same if I uninstall TC completely? XP Pro SP3

  93. October 26th, 2008 at 01:42 | #93

Thank you for the program, very nice addition to the windows gui…

BUT, i recently build a 4gb workstation, and upgraded to windows XP pro x64.
And the TeraCopy isnt integrated proberly into the shell, infact, it does not get integrated at all. I’ve checked and double AND triple checked, the HKEY_CURRENT_USER & HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE keys, and all are as they should be.. but TeraCopy isnt in the rightclick menu, or any other place it were in XP x86 (32bit). It doesn’t get registered at all.

I downloaded the linked to c++ 05 & 08, and installed them, uninstalled teracopy, and reinstalled it, opened it and set the options to be default handler and add to right-click menu, then explorered to my x64 C:\Programs\TeraCopy\ folder, and executed the defaulthandler.reg file as instructed to on x64 system. No go :(

Then i uninstalled teracopy, reinstalled it, replaced the TeraCopy64.dll with the previous linked to debugging TeraCopy64.dll. but when executing teracopy with the debug .dll nothing “special” happens when launching C:\Programs\teracopy\teracopy.exe, it just shows the main window, as it does when using the original teracopy64.dll…

how do i go about getting teracopy into my shell ? or simply getting debug .dll returning information ?

  94. October 26th, 2008 at 01:46 | #94

forgot to mention that i goto options and set them to default handler and right-click menu after each install ;)

  95. October 26th, 2008 at 02:19 | #95

I am embarrased… because i’ve used a costum program files directory name, ur registry file was incomplete, as i points to “C:\Program files\” even though I installed under “C:\Programs\”.
I had to manually enter the real path of my costum named program files directory to the name i had given it ofcourse… as soon as i edited the regsvr32 entry from “C:\Program Files\TeraCopy\TeraCopy64.dll” to “C:\Programs\TeraCopy\TeraCopy64.dll” it works flawlessly again…

Therefor i have the following wish:
Adding full compability to costum installation path, on x64 systems
(making a script during installation, to create the DefaultHandler.reg file for x64 systems, with the costum installation path).

Just wanted to drop a note saying a BIG THANKS for your work on this application! I’ve used this application with now at least 5 or 6 different computers running Windows XP and Windows Vista with no problems on any machine to date (other than the false-positive issue with AVG a while back – fault AVG there).

I have noticed measurable improvements in file transfer speed, and I also LOVE the way it handles duplicate files. I mean, now that I’ve tried it, I’d find it hard to live without this little application for organizing files! I mean, for the person who actually thought of looking within the folders themselves at the actual files for duplicates instead of just at the folder level first, that’s just amazing IMO.

    Big Thanks to CodeSector!

The “Run as Admin” workaround for UAC protected folders works, but you always have to switch to it when you need it. Could you add an option to select “Always run as Admin”? Well, that, or the requested TC elevation prompt.
