Many many thanks. Great work! :-)))

    2. Deajan on March 5, 2008 13:31

Hopefully this will fix my copies of many small files to my USB stick… When v2 will become final, will definitly switch from Supercopier to this holy new copy graal 😉

    3. Uzm on March 5, 2008 15:33

      Thanks a lot!
Deajan, yes, i hope that small files will move to my USB-stick without any hangs as well!

    4. Michael on March 5, 2008 17:29

      Big thanks testing now! 🙂

    5. Domdom on March 5, 2008 21:08

In v1, it was possible to set up the cache directly from the GUI, this is gone in V2 and you have to manually do it in the INI file, not very convenient (you need to understand/know the syntax). Most of the time, defaults have to be changed, e.g. copy from one HD to another HD, I usually changed the cache to 8MB.
The INI should then be updated accordingly to reflect the GUI setting.

Otherwise, yes a great little software, quite reliable when a lot of data has to be copied/moved. Thanks.

    6. Pinco on March 5, 2008 22:50

During copy/move file and folders, the timestamps remain the same?

      Thanks

Will Vista x64 shell integration and the default copy handler work in the next release? Any plans for supporting this in Vista x64?

    8. Patrick Metz on March 6, 2008 13:46

      Nice!

      Finally a new version! :-))
      Thank You very much!!

    9. Mike on March 6, 2008 14:10

When I do a Tera move/copy to a network share of 2 Excel files, a file called FileList.dat is created insted of the Excel files being moved/copied. Is this a bug?

      Thanks

    10. Andrea on March 6, 2008 15:17

Any news for Vista x64? Does it work with this OS now?

    11. Guy on March 6, 2008 17:45

Another one who’d like to know if Vista x64 is now supported.
      Thanks

    12. Ken on March 6, 2008 20:22

      Many thanks for:
“Added: ‘TestAlways’ option in the ini file ”

PS Since the last time I posted, I ran into a persistent bug in copying many files that sounds partially similar to some events mentioned above.

    13. Ken on March 6, 2008 21:59

To give more details, I was moving some folders from one drive to another (dual core cpu, btw), and when the folders had many small files, Vista (32-bit) would pop up an abnormal termination window. This happened 3 or 4 times with different similar folders, and I discovered that the workaround was to choose “restart Teracopy” and then upon restart, there would be a duplicate file popup and I would select “Skip All” which would skip all the files that it had already moved, and then afterwards I could manually delete the remaining files in the source folder that were not deleted due to the abnormal termination.

My guess is that Teracopy can only keep track of N files and when the task reaches N+1, it abnormally terminates.

    14. Jeff on March 6, 2008 22:24

When I do a Tera move/copy to a network share of 2 Excel files, a file called FileList.dat is created insted of the Excel files being moved/copied. Is this a bug?

Make sure that TeraCopy.dll and TeraCopyExt.dll installed correctly (should be dated March 2008). If you’re using Total Commander, please update toolbar buttons params.

Any news for Vista x64? Does it work with this OS now?

Not yet, add it in the next version.

During copy/move file and folders, the timestamps remain the same?

For files only, will fix it in final version.

Hoping to see advanced sfv/md5 checking features (most of which are context-menu)

    17. LV426 on March 7, 2008 14:33

Great work – I too miss the ability to change the cache amount on the fly. Is this something that will come back? (I regularly use it to transfer files of varying sizes across both my network and onto external hard drives)

    18. LV426 on March 7, 2008 14:35

Also – what about a comment when you select the more option to inform you of the current cache size?

    19. ALf on March 7, 2008 15:43

I was using TotalCopy but TeraCopy is better. The only feature I miss in TeraCopy is the speed control (Speed Limit). Are you going to add such control?
      Keep up the good work

    20. Micke on March 7, 2008 19:12

I second the suggestion (request 😉 ) for cache control & info in the GUI. Equipment that ppl use for data copying can vary a lot, from enterprise class HW with 10 GbE and HW RAID to 5+ year old Home PC with 10 MbE — there’s no way to hardcode optimal values for cache size once and for all IMO. The defaults are AOK as they are now though.

It could be hidden as “advanced” or something like that. But cache control can hardly make any damage, any waste of memory is quite easy to see if the preformance doesn’t benefit… (correct me if I’m wrong)

I really like this program, and I’m glad I found it when I was looking for something to do file data copying. It’s small, nice and does just what one wants it to do. Plus the sounds you’ve included are good too! 🙂 The most important thing with a prog like this one is of course 99.999% stability (2nd is performance). Feeding it with a dense file tree with 1000000 small files should work every time… It has only crashed on me once during such an operation, but still… Keep up the good work, I’m using this and will continue to do

    21. Rostol on March 8, 2008 01:40

      Micke:
you can change the ini in %APPDATA%\Teracopy (options.ini).

There are 4 values there with the defaults
      Default=1024
      SameDrive=10240
      BetweenHDD=256
      Network=256

I dont know if the value default is used at all, as the other 3 cover all the possiblities, but still you can tweek these until the slider is back (if ever…)

    22. Syamsoul on March 10, 2008 11:55

Hey!Thanks for the download! TeraCopy is awsome!!

      Thank you very very much!!!

    23. Micke on March 10, 2008 13:22

      > you can change the ini in %APPDATA%\Teracopy (options.ini).

Yeah, I know — I learnt about that by searching around a bit here in this forum and w Google 😉 I’ve experimented w different sizes a bit, but nothing conclusive on performance from me at this point I’m afraid. Will get back l8r w info, if I have time to make a proper test series with my equipment

      Cheers,
      /M

    24. Micke on March 10, 2008 13:55

Hey, could anyone explain to me how to use the md5 and sfv files support in TeraCopy 2 beta3?

I’m thinking it means that it can check files against pre-calculated checksums contained in either an .sfv or an .md5 file. That would be the point of associating those two file types w TeraCopy, so when double-clicked, the files in the .sfv or .md5 file will be tested (but not copied/moved). I don’t really want to associate the filetypes withTC for a couple of reasons though, so I’ve been trying to figure out what to do in the GUI “manually” to make TeraCopy run only a test of source (or target?) files using the contents of a .sfv file like this one:

      xvpa.r00 930047f1
      xvpa.r01 f9778278
      xvpa.r02 30dad63a
      xvpa.r03 b8cf8af3
      xvpa.r04 88f5819d
      xvpa.r05 35cf451a
      […]

But I just don’t understand how to make it work. Hints/help would be much appreciated.

      /M

This trick should help: associate .sfv/.md5 files with TeraCopy first, then with another program you’re going to use. After this you can right click on .sfv/.md5 file and select Open With > TeraCopy. Example command line: TeraCopy.exe Check C:\test.sfv

you can change the ini in %APPDATA%\Teracopy (options.ini).

Currently there’s no buffer size related settings in the ini file. You can see the full list here: http://help.codesector.com/TeraCopyConfiguration.
I’ll implement change cache size on the fly a little later. I can’t make a speed limiter without it anyway.

      Hi,

Tested B3 resume capabilty (twice) with Retries set to 1000 in ini file and the same test as before (copy big file accross network and pull out network cable while busy). This time round TC did not time out as before but when the network cable replaced it froze with no resuming of the copy or reponse to any buttons. Running under Vista Bussiness 32 bit.

      Thanks

How does the “delete” operation work via the command line?
The following fires up TeraCopy, but it just sits there and does nothing:

      teracopy delete *.*

Or is the “delete” option only available in the registered version?

    28. Roy on March 11, 2008 13:36

      What about i18n support?

Ok so what are these? Semantics? They were in my
Options.ini from start, I didn’t put it in. Perhaps they’re
      just dummies for now..?

      [Buffer]
      Default=1024
      SameDrive=10240
      BetweenHDD=256
      Network=256

I was under the impression, from other comments here, that these are sizes in KB and they can be changed. There was an earlier beta version of TC which had this in the user IF. Maybe I misunderstood.

Ok, I see. There doesn’t seem to be any documentation at all mentioning the CLI command “Check”. How come..?
I’ve tried “Check” now and it works just fine.
But you’re saying one *has* to do the association first to enable the functionality to do the check operation without going to the CLI? If I right-click on an .sfv and do Open With and just locate TeraCopy.exe manually, it doesn’t seem to work 🙁

      Thanks,
      /M

TeraCopy doesn’t support wildcards yet, sorry. You need to specify a path: teracopy delete c:\temp\. But in this case folder “c:\temp” will be deleted as well.

Yes, they’re left from version 1.22. If you delete Options.ini it will be recreated with settings used by v. 2.0.

Yes, it’s because TeraCopy expect the Operation parameter. I’ll make it accept .sfv and .md5 files instead of Operation. Just updated command line info page http://help.codesector.com/TeraCopyCommandLine.

    32. Orion on March 15, 2008 06:23

      Jeff,

What happened to the user definable buffer size? Is this something that will be added back in?

    33. Jen Smith on March 16, 2008 00:01

Beta 3’s looking pretty good for me, nice job on the project. I do have one feature request though, and it’s really not that big a deal.

Would it be possible to have the ability to exclude directories from TerraCopy? Or, more specifically, have TerraCopy ignore the start menu directories? It’s not a huge deal, but when dragging and dropping menu entries with TerraCopy enabled, the start menu closes, which is a minor nuisance when you’re rearranging things, especially after a fresh Windows install.

Otherwise working great, especially love the addition of being able to recolor the progress bars; were near impossible to read with the themes I’m using.

    34. LinHongJun on March 16, 2008 05:00

User beta3 to copy across LAN will cause bluescreen with following info:
“driver has corrupted the locked pages tracking structure ”
      something like that.
after changed to beta 2, it disappered.

    35. Alex on March 16, 2008 11:06

Moving files into places that require higher permissions (ie. invokes UAC prompt) will fail with ‘Target: Access is denied.’

This is on a fresh install of Vista SP1 integrated DVD.

    36. Ranne on March 16, 2008 11:20

I’ve been using TeraCopy on WinXP Pro for several months and even thought of buying the full version to support this great program. Unfortunately, I just switched to the x64 version of XP (which I already hate wholeheartedly but need to recognize those 8gb of RAM), and the program, though installed correctly, won’t integrate itself into Explorer’s right-click menu anymore. Is there a way to make a x64 compatible build of TeraCopy? I just can’t imagine myself working without it.

    37. willing on March 16, 2008 22:27

It’s too bad teracopy doesn’t support Vista x64. I too have moved on to 64-bit after upgrading my system to 8 GB of DDR2 800 RAM. It’s awesome running without a pagefile. Everything is noticably more responsive.

      Teracopy x64, where are you?

    38. Micke on March 18, 2008 21:36

      Jeff wrote:

AFAIR I’ve never had any other version of TeraCopy installed than v2 beta. So if you mean that those buffer size settings in my Options.ini came from an older 1.x installation of TeraCopy, I don’t agree – unless I’m missing something. In any case, those settings are not used in the actual code in TC2 beta 3, that pretty clear by now. A speed limiter function + buffer size control seems to be the most interesting features for beta 4 then. (perhaps support for x64 is prioritized though)

    39. bastou on March 19, 2008 15:05

      Hi,

I was a user of SuperCopier, but prefered used a new “fresh” software on Vista.

I noticed some suggestions that could be fine :
      1) When a copy is stopped, the destination files stay there. Sometime it is good, sometimes not.

      2) when a big file copy is stopped, the part (not completed) stays in the destination !!! Instead of having the “delete source” button, should it be possible to delete the destination partial file ?

      3) Compared to Supercopier, we still cannot verify if the destination will be full before the end. In my mind this is a very important fonction.

Thanks a lot for your word.
      Sebastien

    40. XtremeMaC on March 19, 2008 21:35

      Hi there,
I’ve recently found your software and its pretty amazing.

I’ve 1 thing i disliked about the software and thats the renaming scheme.
if there is a duplicate it renames it to “copy of …”
now thats not very useful in a lot of ways.
      1. say the actual file starts with “Z”, copy of, since it starts with “C” goes to the beginning when sorted.
      2. same file name doesn’t always mean that its a “copy of” the original file. in many cases its a different file having same file name.
      3. I agree with bastou (above post) about the suggestions!!
leftovers from partial file, and/or partial copy are annoying.

So can u guys change the naming scheme to “FileName_2” if another duplicate “FileName_3” and so on?
      That would be lovely!

      Thanx!!

    41. Tim on March 20, 2008 12:18

I love this program, actually bought the pro because its so great. And i pretty much never buy programs! I still see a strange bug that pops up off and on. I have a network share and if i copy a file or folder to it, it would copy and complete, but would not be seen by windows at all. If i try to copy it again with teracopy, it will ask if i want to overwrite it. If i do a regular winxp copy, it will just copy as normal. That actual data does not seem to actually have been copied as size of the folder would not change. It would actually go through the process as if it did though. Any ideas?

    42. Ranne on March 21, 2008 21:26

(41)Tim, it looks like Windows Explorer auto-refresh problem. Try refreshing (right click -> refresh) the destination window whenever it happens. There are some official Vista hotfixes for that but I don’t know your OS. Just google the problem’s keywords.

    43. Goldy on March 22, 2008 04:38

DOpus buttons no longer work with TeraCopy 2.0 beta 3. I’m using the code in “Directory Opus.txt”. The new command line should not be affecting DOpus buttons. Any help would be appreciated.

    44. sam on March 22, 2008 21:00

when will the final version release???

    45. Goldy on March 23, 2008 04:23

DOpus buttons need the “*” added due to new command line template. Recommend that the “Directory Opus.txt” file be updated.

      Example:
      TeraCopy.exe Copy *{allfilepath|filem} {destpath}
      TeraCopy.exe Move *{allfilepath|filem} {destpath}

I am French and appreciate a lot your tool teracopy
I’ve tried some others tools too as supercopier, killcopy and totalcopy
See below some features that is missing
-options does not give us a full access to all parameter with gui
-Tree view and time duration will help a lot
      -multiple mode ,basic or advance
      -themes
-queue mode not only of files but on task
      -schedule mode (as backup..)
      -compatibility with 64 bit
      -slider speed time
      -report html,txt
      -profiles on the fly(usb,network…)
-speed calculating as nero does before burning a cd as parameters
      -history gui
-restore a session of copy as firefox
      -crash or shutdown recover
-force to shutdown or restart after files has been copied
      ….

I know some of them are on the way and others seems irrevelant
but I hope this will help for any future additions
As you know the most important is the solid copy/move files
      all others stuff as comestic.

Thanks anyway , and good work on it

    48. Bill Hooper on March 24, 2008 07:29

Basically, I have just started using Teracopy in what seemed to be a lost cause…I try to organize and move Tens of Gigabytes worth of small files from one portable drive to another (by a small file, I mean in the 67Kb range, and sometimes there are at least 1 Million+ files to move), so you can imagine how awful and time consuming it is when Windows gives up, only 10% into an operation… after it took 1.5 Hours just trying to process the thousands of files to be moved.

I am always looking for a better way to move files, and I have found it. I have been using Teracopy for three days straight now, and it may not be noticably faster in terms of moving files with great instantaneous speed, but I have to say that after 51 hours of uninterrupted file moving, I am a new convert to the unstoppable juggernaut, Teracopy!!…Windows, bow down!

      Thanks!

    49. Blind Dog Griffin on March 24, 2008 19:18

I love Teracopy, especially for network transfers. However, I’m legally blind and version 2 has gotten so small; I’m sticking with 1.22 for now. I’m not seeing enough benefit in 2.0 to make it worth the squint. 🙂
      Thanks for the great software!

    50. Mike on March 25, 2008 15:46

I noticed 2 bugs in this release:
      – When cancelling a copy it will leave the part it has already copied in the destination folder which can confuse people if they don’t check the filzesize and see that its only a partial copy
      – When moving files/folders using UNC network names on the same share, the move should be immediate like Windows Explorer’s move. What happens is that it will start copying and take ages, espcially if there are big files. For example if I move a file from \\server\share\Folder1 to \\server\share\Folder2 it should be immediate, but its not. I don’t know if this happens will all paths or only on longer and more complex paths.

      Thanks

    51. Oliver on March 30, 2008 20:39

I was wondering if it might be possible to get more granularity over the items in the file list. Can you add the ability to set/change the destination for individual items?
Thanks for the great work! Can’t wait for the next release.

      Hello,
a very good prpgramm. I am copying hundreds of gigabytes and I find teracopy very usefull.
The only thing i am missing in version 2 is a operation which was in version 1.
In version 1 files are deleted direct after they are copied, in version 2 not till then all selected files are copied. In my opinion it should be controlled by an entry in the ini-file.

      with best regards from Germany

      Hi Roberto,

I tried moving from commandline too,

      Try:
      C:\Programmi\TeraCopy\TeraCopy.exe Move F:\sposta.venus.cinerip \\venus\part1

where the directory part1 must exist

    56. Ren Dhark on April 18, 2008 21:55

While teracopy is waiting for other process to finish it si not posible do move files to the source file list with drag and drop and with copy and paste

    57. Ren Dhark on April 22, 2008 10:45

While tercopy copied files from one drive to another I moved new files with drag and drop to teracopy. It didn’t calculate the available space on the destination drive (first problem).

After hours teracopy said no space, but now it is not possible to skip files. The only way is to cancel, but then all copied files are not deltetet and I must delete them manually (second problem).

This software is very usefull, and really increase the transfert of files, especially from an hard drive to another hard drive.

BUT THERE IS NO FRENCH VERSION!!!

I CAN TRANSLATE IT FOR YOU FOR FREE, just contact me…

Great piece of software! There is one feature I’d love to see added: The ability to check all md5 signatures contained in every *.md5 file found in an entire directory/subdirectory tree.

This is an excellent utility, except for a major problem when using it in Vista. I run a limited user account rather than one with full Admin rights. I won’t compromise on that, as this is a more secure configuration. Often I’ll copy a file to or from a location that triggers the UAC, and on a limited account, the standard copy routine would ask for the Admin account’s password before it can proceed. TeraCopy doesn’t do this. In fact, it does nothing at all. The file isn’t copied, and no failure is reported. To get around this, I must resort to the built-in Windows copy. Please consider fixing this. Whatever time I’m saving in faster bulk copy operations is being offset by having to retry restricted copy operations using the built-in copy routine.

By the way, the spam filters here are way too aggressive. I can’t post a message with the NoScript add-on (in Firefox) enabled at all, even with it set to completely allow all scripts with no restriction. I’ve tried posting this message quite a few times now.

the new version is great but I have found a files fragmentation problem, teracopy just put the file in random places instead of placing it in first free sector (continuous free space where the file will fit and dont become fragmented) , there were no such bug in version 1.22 …

For some reason I can’t get the 2.0b3 to embed itself as the default copy/move action in Vista x64.. It worked great in XP.
I’ve tried running TeraCopy as Admin and uncheck>recheck the Default Copy Service bit with no effect.. Anyone got a solution to this?

Hi there. I’ve found a bug, reproduced it on 2 computers, runing vista SP1 RTM and Vista with SP1 (32bits both)

I’m trying to copy some files to a mounted internet folder.
I get the error: “target folder is not available”.

How to reproduce: Go to hasfiles.com, register, download their mapper application, map the internet hdd on your system, and after everything is ok try to copy some files with teracopy 2 beta 3.
It will fail with the above error.

When are we getting a new update? 🙂

    71. David on July 28, 2008 03:35

Sorry – put this comment on the wrong post – it should be here.

It seems that TeraCopy’s shell integration interferes with WinRAR’s “drag and drop” extraction feature.

E.g. if I open a WinRAR archive and drag/drop a file from the archive to a folder on my PC (e.g. desktop), then WinRAR performs the decompression but then fails with the final copy. I don’t have the error message on hand at the moment. Performing a normal ‘extract’ works fine – it’s the drag/drop that causes the problem.

I’ve been using TeraCopy for several months and it’s great but today some weird thing happened. I selected several (6) files in a directory then left click to “Teracopy…” then in the TeraCopy window the “Copy to” button and select the Destination

The problem was that even though Teracopy finished OK and as usual I tested after CRC after the copy… but there were only 4 files copied ! Unfortunately I had already “shift-deleted” the original files.

Does any of you had experienced such erratic behavior?

      Thanks

      Hi Guys,

Having a problem with Terracopy b3 on vista bus. I am shuffling data around to different drives and b3 just hangs…. process isn’t spiked nothing… files are mixed sizes and about 20k files per copy… any ideas?

    75. Craig Kaminski on May 7, 2009 22:49

It would be really useful if the filelist you specfiy from the command line were capable of assigning a unique destination with each line item, and as another feature, have some flag to copy the files in the ist to the same realtive directory at the destination point(of cource creating the directory tree structure if it does not exist).

I like the statistics this product displays while copying and it seem fast and reliable.

I am looking forward to an updated release.
