    SpeedView 2.7

    What’s new in 2.7:

    • Basic tablet support.
    • Enable screen auto-rotation.
    • Maximum digital speed limit.
    • Show additional data on the digital gauge.
    • Updated speed limit presets.
    • Lots of minor improvements.

Note: Due to certain technical reasons all versions of SpeedView higher than 2.6 will not work with Android 1.5 (Cupcake). You of course will be able to use your current version, but you will not receive further updates. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Is there a way to export past .log files to gpx format?

      • Andrew on September 1, 2011 12:41

I’m afraid not. On every startup the app automatically erases outdated log files to avoid cluttering up the phone’s SD card, leaving only the most recent three. We can increase the limit though.

I got 3 logs from 24 July, 28 July and 1st August but when I choose to “Export to SD card” it says there is no data to export (it’s Nexus S and there is no SD card, just a memory pretending to be SD card and it’s visible if I connect the phone to a PC via USB). So I cannot get gpx files from whatever logs are still present.

My next choice is to use log file as it is, format seems to be reasonable easy to decode: longtitude, lattitude (or other way around), timestamp in seconds?, are the two last ones speed and altitude? Can you please let us know what the format is?

      Hello,

Is is possible to make the 0-100 times more accurate …at the moment you can oly measure: 5.0, 6.0, 7.0 sec.

Why not add an extra decimal? … So that results can be like 5.6, 7.1 etc.

Because GPS precision is limited to 1sec.

ON the speedview pro why does the top speed stop at 162mph why is there a  reason to not let it just read everything? I paid for your app and thats as fast as it goes, go I got a competitors free app and got the same 162 now thats seems strange but three runs and they all ended at that same speed whats the odds of me stopping a run a exacticly 162 and I have yet to finish 6th gear so is this your app or what?

      • Andrew on September 1, 2011 13:32

You need to uncheck the “Narrow speed range” option in the app’s settings. It’s on by default because it filters out erratic high values in the incoming data, so you won’t have top speeds like, say, 345 mph popping out of nowhere due to GPS errors (which are quite common). Call it a necessary evil if you like. It’s not everyday that you drive faster than 240 mph anyway.

      Has TeraCopy been abandoned?

What I really want is a simple speedometer that displays the speed (numbers) always on top. So if I have the music player up the speedometer will be displayed in one of the corners on top of the music player.

John, thanks for the suggestion, but this is not doable. You can’t just overlay another activity with yours in Android. You can put something in the notification bar or create a widget. We actually thought about displaying speed in the notification bar (without having to drag down the bar), like some weather or battery indicator apps do. Then it turned out that in Android you can only display pictures in there (in fact, once I looked through the source code of one of those weather apps and they had around 50 pics just to do this). Pretty lame, yes, but you still can live with this if you’re doing a weather app. For a speedo app, however, you need to show speeds ranging from 0 to at least 240 using a separate picture for each speed. Not a very hot idea really.

I need to start recording in the advanced dashboard before I get speed data. I am running Gingerbread.  How do I delete old gpx files.
