January 19th, 2010 Leave a comment Go to comments
  • Added: Multi-monitor support.
  • Added: Run additional app on finish (eject disk, etc).
  • Fixed: Copy not starting automatically.

If you found ‘Shutdown after copy’ option not very useful, you can specify additional application. Updated help page with example settings for USB Disk Ejector.

Oh goodie, a new version to play with on my XPSP3 box. Uninstall v1.22, reboot, install 2.12, reboot. Hooked up a spare empty FireWire drive and another USB drive, and threw about 5,000 files (20gb-ish) at each from my PC’s internal drives.

I still get two instances of TeraCopy whenever I do two consecutive copies or moves. Sigh.

    Back to 1.22. Again.

I forgot to mention last time: One of the single biggest annoyances with v1.22 was that it insisted on being ‘always on top’ and there didn’t seem to be a way to get rid of it, except to minimise it to the system tray. Something odd happened, though, after this latest test. When I started using 1.22 again, the ‘always on top’ was gone, I could send it behind other windows.

If some students stuck with persuasive term paper accomplishing, thus I would recommend to buy custom essays at some comparison essay service under such circumstances.

I love teracopy… that said if i had one request it would be to change the scroll lock behavior to make it so that teracopy *IS* the default handler and not the other way around; which is the current option. Just my $.02. Thanks for the greate apps!

Having just got round my Anti Virus picking it up I’ve upgraded to Windows 7.

    And so …

Is there anyway of getting Windows 7 to accept TeraCopy as the default handler without turning off UAC. I’ve even tried the app compat toolkit but can;t get it to stop asking me about whether I want to run it.

Sorry if this is a repeat of someone else post I did look but couldn’t see anyone else having the problem.

PS Am a full user, I’ve loved TC since 1.22 but I just seem to bounce from one problem to another at the mo :0)

Nope, it’s several times faster for me. W7 Pro x64, AMD Phenom II X4.

We where promised that newer versions was going to have variable buffer size and in that being faster than e.g. 2.01 – why haven’t that been implemented yet? A little bit disapoint that U are now selling the product 50% off after i have bought this. This COPY utility is stil the fastest! But not the best. I f U wanna go for something better but a little slower look for Copy Handler whic is free as well. U guye need to improwe terracopy else U will be facing that the product will be hard to sell….

Yeah.. I found it slower than windows default copier…
Is there any setting i have to change?
Can someone give me the tutorial?

    Hi,

First off thanks for a great program… I would like to buy it, but not before the bugs are sorted… In my eyes the only bug is the following:

I have personally on my private desktop at home, 5TB of space, and in that space, I have about 4TB of data… When I do my HDD swaps (using that amount of data means a high turnaround of HDD’s), I go ape and que everything to copy/move over night. The problem I have is that once you have 4/5 windows open waiting for the others to finish, data count being in the TB’s, TeraCopy just freezes, for no reason whatsoever that I can see… Why is it that this is the best program ever to copy 100/200GB of data but as soon as you move to higher stacks, it bombs out?

Again, this is my personal data, I’m not even talking about using this in our company where TB seems like a floppy of old…

    Howdy,

I think this is a great program but I’m going to ask for a feature. This feature will slow down the read/write process. Meaning instead of going as fast as it can, it would be nice if I could limit the bandwidth to say 20k/sec. Generally speaking going as fast as possible is ok however the network server I am accesssing is unable to keep up with all the read/writes so there are some error messages coming around. It would be good to slow down the transfer to be nice to other users. I’ve used another program that has this feature. It has a slider bar and the default is 100 megs/sec and slides down to 1k/sec. Something to consider.

Hi, I have a question. Should I use TeraCopy on Windows 7? I think the speed of coyping process on Windows 7 is optimized and pretty fast, so does TeraCopy make this faster? When I copy file(s) and folder(s) by TeraCopy, it always takes a while before showing a TeraCopy windows. Thanks!

HELP! Dumbest question ever I know but I don’t know what else to do. I’ve got TeraCopy 2.05 portable version and I don’t know how to tell it what files to copy. I can select a target folder just not a source. I’m working on a server and do not want to argue with security about installing. HELP!

Hi, I tested teracopy on my PC and it rules when tranfering medium to large files, but it is very slow when moving lots of small files, even slower than the windows 7 default copy. I also came across the same results on the net. I found an alternative which is good with small files too, but it is so buggy, uncompatible and troublesome to use, that I’ll stick with teracopy — the UI has already won me.

But I’d like to see an improved copy mechanism for small files too in a future version!!! luv ya!

I would not recommend TeraCopy to anyone at this point.
I’ve been a customer and paid for the software, but support simply sucks.

I have a ticket open for 50 days, with multiple entries by me asking “what is going on?”, and no response yet.

Don’t waste your money, because that’s the service you should expect to get.

Just found and started using TeraCopy to copy a large directory with over 300,000 files and 100GB. It took several hours to build the source file library (which was fine) but then, when actually copying files, would copy about 285 files and then stop for almost a minute before copying another 285 files and stopping again. This continues to repeat for the entire copy.

I am copying from one network drive to another; other network traffic is almost zero. Using Win XP Pro, SP3, 3.5GB RAM, Pentium 4, 2.8GHz.

Anyone know why I am getting the almost 1 minute delay between copying batches of 285 files??

    Thanks

Question on 2.12. It seems that Teracopy doesn’t understand symlinks? I see strange errors in log: “Open Error: The system cannot find the file specified.”
I have also strange log line, stating: “DirTimeStamp error in C:\FolderPath\..”. What does it mean?

-Theres a defaulthandler.reg file in the teracopy directory. just run that and it should be fixed.

    - yea, that has been an annoying “bug” for me too (on 64-bit). I simply disabled the computer from going to sleep. if i want it to sleep, ill tell it to sleep manually. Sometimes the computer going to sleep will error the transfer.

    - Windows 7’s copy speed IS faster than teracopy, however i still use teracopy myself because of the ability to delete files out of the queue (pro version), and if one file fails it’ll continue the queue instead of dropping the whole thing, and also for the “test” feature to verify that the files transferred correctly. I’d recommend you at least try it out.

-I do agree that support is not great, however, you must remember that Jeff (the guy who works on it) is only 1 man, and he has a few other projects to work on and fix bugs also. If people buy the software, it gives him money to perhaps hire extra staff to help out with support

    @Robbie
Had I known ahead of time that support would be practically nonexistent, I could have possibly chosen another solution.

Taking people’s money for software+support and then ignoring support requests is inexcusable.

First time user who just downloaded and tested on XP.

Wouldn’t it be better to have the CRC checks complete before beginning another copy/move?
As it is now, the CRC checks of the first copy will run in paralell to the second copy which makes both operations slow.

Also, it would be nice to have an option to have all copy/move operations handled by one window. For this option to work, there would be some rework needed to the information in the extended window.

I guess the main thing is to get the bugs where ppl are loosing files fixed (not experienced by myself yet).

    Otherwise great piece of software!

“# Fixed: Copy not starting automatically.”
This worked more or less reliable until this update. In my case now I have to start it manually very often.

If you need any further information, please contact me.

    March 16th, 2010 at 22:36 | #30

Ok, as far as I could recognize it depends on whether I copy from one hard disk to another. In this case I have to start always manually. Is this a known bug?

    Best Regards
