In the 2.* Betas as well as the nightlies, TeraCopy would copy and/or move files at around 90MB/sec, however with 2.01 Final — and 2.06 Beta — TeraCopy is only copying and or moving files at between 35MB/sec – just over 50MB/sec. What is going on, and why the big change in speed?

Just wanted to thank you guys. TC has got to be the best free utility out there. I’ve been looking for a looong time for something like this and finally you guys did it.
Awsome! ‘nuf said!
2.06b seems to fix the problem with not all files being moved and in the wrong order, perhaps it was the same flaw as “copy stops in the middle of the operation”.
Jeff – PLEASE add an .ini option to only delete after ALL tests are successful, i.e. the original TeraCopy method, because that is preferable for music albums, software programs, and other folders containing files that all constitute one unit. Thanks!
Tommy on
please add a retry option for network copy
if you lose connection teracopy will keep trying even when the network share is down, and when its up again it will resume copy

Just to let you know, it may not be the same on all systems. I’ve built a CAD$5000 computer, and before 2.01 I was getting around 90MB/sec — sometimes upwards of 100+MB/sec — transfer rates, and now like I posted about I am getting around 35MB/sec to 50MB/sec.

With 2.06 beta, when dragging files with SHIFT pressed, it copies the files instead of moving them. I don’t remember if the problem was present with earlier version.
And the “Teracopy” menu entry still appears in the explorer context menu even when “Add to explorer context menu” option is unticked.
No, 2.06 Beta did NOT solve the problems of 2.05 Beta.
Moving from SATA drive to USB drive on Vista of one file caused the file to be moved, and then TeraCopy to just say “Testing…” and never do the test. When I did “cancel” and then “test”, it ran the test, but did not delete the original file, since the Test was no longer part of the Move process.

Hmm, yeah, I’m sorry to say that I am currently copying about 800GB of data from a 1 TB drive (sata) to a 2 TB drive (eSata) on a Q6600 (quad core) using XP SP2 and 2.06 beta is still freezing regularly, as before. Cancel works okay.
This is a real bear of a problem!
WhaHappenedToMyFiles? on
Not fixed yet.
Going from 750 gig eSATA to an internal 1 TB SATA on a new EVGA X58 board, the copy got about 300 meg into a 500+ gig transfer and stopped. It’s not frozen, since I could cancel out. Exact same issue on a Q6600 with an ASUS board.
Also, I concur with the much slower speeds. I used to hover at about 90MB/sec, now (when it works), Teracopy stays at about 55MB/sec.
Windows copy is fine and keeps chugging along at about 75-80MB/sec.
It’s not all bad, though. I’ve moved over 2.5 TB of data from various USB drives to various others in a Cavalry 2-drive external enclosure without a hint of a problem. It took two days, but it worked!

I ask to add support of other languages too. I can make a translation into Polish.
Got the same problem here with network (homeserver) to external usb drive.
It gets stuck on some exe files it seems. It just stops and refuses to pause or skip the offending file (perhaps add a timeout feature?, so you can retest later after cleaning up all correctly copied files).
Another request would be to add an option to add files to a single TC window instead of opening new ones all the time.
Last request is to start copying as soon as the first file is enumerated on the source drive. There is no need to wait until enumeration has completed.
Btw just registered as I really like this program.

Dunno where to post this other than here so here goes:
I noticed no intuitive location to submit a suggestion, accolade or otherwise positive remarks on any Code Sector related site or product. An active form (such as Vanilla and YaBB just to name two) for Code Sector Programs where you can list suggestions and discuss other features that are not related to bugs would be awesome. Perhaps I just can’t find it? More options are listed here: http://www.cmsreview.com/Forums/OpenSource.html
This suggestion is regarding Cute Organizer. What I was looking for specifically was a program that would work with Gmail/Google Contacts so that if I were to update/modify a contact in Gmail, it would sync with Cute Organizer and vice versa.
I currently use web access for all of my email needs. Having the ability to sync contacts with Gmail allows me the ability to work with a desktop application for managing my life, contacts, addresses and all the information that no longer finds its place in a Rolodex or address book with one simple, easy to use, comprehensive application that works well in the electronic world. I am not concerned about syncing with Google Calendar (although that would be nice).
So basically; I’m using the Gmail web interface for most of my communication needs. I’m creating a document in Word; and need to look up an address. Fire up Cute Organizer and presto; there it is. I need to look up a phone number; fire up Cute Organizer, there it is. I’m on the phone with a client and they provide a new email address. Fire up Cute Organizer, add/modify the email address. Close program (auto sync) and done. Go to lunch. Fire up Gmail, compose message with new email address.
I want to print out address labels. Fire up Cute Organizer, print.
Perhaps there is another program that fits this need and I have yet to find it.

Hi,
I love terracopy.
Please add a retry option again for copying.
Is it possible to make an test control option for hash md5. Now it’s only CRC.
V2.06 seems to be slower in copying.
I’ve been having some slowdowns lately withing windows.. Generally I am folding proteins 24\7 on my laptop.. Lately i’ve been transferring some files with teracopy 2.06 beta.. Over the last few days things have seemed to become slower and slower.. Recent changes include technical prview for Office 2010.. Not sure if this is truly Teracopy’s fault but thought id bring it up incase anybody else is having slow downs.. Not in transfer speeds just overall windows 7 32bit (7600 RTM) speeds..
Open teracopy so you can see a blank copy window.. Expand with “More” button.. Then youll see Menu>Options.. In Options set to register copy handler and use as default copy handler.. I also uncheck add to explorer context menu..
I’m having slowdowns now.. 32bit setup though here.. Sometimes files don’t move but it is beta.. I just coax it along.. To be more specific.. I can cut files for example.. Paste in another folder.. Seems to be lag that has increased from cut to paste etc.. To the point where I screen refresh and file finally disappears..

Hello, I have four (4)recommendations: 1)Please add speed control, like mini speed bar, because TC consume big resources and slow down all system, some times we need to continue working, example we cannot play radio by internet or simple play music from another HDD. 2) Add Idle option, TC only will copy when PC is idle or by minimum CPU (%) percentage to TC starts. 3)When you add files by contextual menu (file by file,) TC should add files to the same window (the same queue), actually TC opens another instances. 4) When you add big amount of files, calculate time, CRC, space, etc.. should be while is already copying (online), after you have selected destine with Copy or Move option, because you have to waste a lot of precious time.
Thanks. My PC:Core2Duo,4GB RAM, WinXP SP2.

@yossi
I would rather see just 1 window in the taskbar with each window that currently gets opened showing up as a TAB window, just like modern browsers.
Include ability to drag&drop/move those tabs around so that TC processes them in that order, and not just the order they were created. IE: if the last job added is small and I want it to be processed next, I can drag that tab into the second position.
garp99 on
To add…
I like how 2.01 is now adding files that have the same destination and putting them into the same window/job.
However, now it deletes files as they are completed… which is ok for files such as large video but I moving a folder should wait until the *whole* folder is completely moved. More often the folder contains items that should be kept all intact, and the source folder only deleted once *every* file is moved.
So again, perhaps an option (or standard in next version) so that source files are deleted after moved checks ok, but source folders only deleted after the complete folder is moved and checked.

As a long time user, the number one option that I would LOVE to see added is a time-delay PAUSE option.
In Newsleecher, it has a PAUSE dropdown box with default
Pause until manually unpaused
Pause for 10 minutes
Pause for 30 minutes
Pause for 60 minutes
Pause next 2 hours
Pause next 3 hours
Pause next 6 hours
Just clicking PAUSE acts like it does now and shows a ticking clock instead of RESUME.
Using drop-down list allows those other options which is great because I can pause 30 minutes to burn a DVD, or 60 minutes for a dual-layer DVD, or just 10 minutes to UNRAR some files.
Point is I don’t have to wait around for those other jobs to finish first before telling TC to continue working.

I’ve been using SuperCopier forever and it’s pretty much the perfect replacement for windows copy, it has queuing, re-ordering, pause, delete from queue, speed limits, resume from failure, and a whole lot of other amazing options. The only problem with it is that it’s no longer under development and it doesn’t work in Windows 7.
Teracopy is great, but it lacks some pretty basic features, so please take a look at SuperCopier, if you could incorporate all the features of it in to Teracopy you would have an awesome product.

I seem to often get a crash when creating multiple jobs (different window for each destination folder).
I get the modExcept Bug window that has the options for Continue/Restart/Close Application.
Creating a second job caused this window to open just 21 seconds later. Relevant data:
Operating System: Windows XP SP3 build 2600
Physical Memory: 1466/2022 MB (free/total)
Allocated memory: 12.32 MB
Command line: “C:\Program Files\Teracopy/teracopy.exe” Move *”C:\Docs…\Application Data\Teracopy\FileList.dat” ” V:\New”

Exception Message: List index out of bounds(0).
Call stacks:
Classes ………. TStringList.Get
CopyFile 4784 +49 WaitForOtherCopy
CopyFile 5096 +238 CopyThread
If I wait for the first job to complete, using restart on the second job will more often work. However, if I try to continue or close application then the window closes (as expected). BUT, I can no longer Teracopy *any* files into the same destination folder as the second job, not until the first job is completed. I *can* copy the same files into a new destination folder.
This problem is becoming a very BIG problem and I am considering going back to version 1 because it worked great.

More problems to report, since 2.01 and including 2.06.
– Blue screen of death on multiple occasions.
– Not enough system resources to process commands
A PC reboot is required for both of those problems…. I hate to reboot my PC because of productivity time lost.
The second error causes the title bar of other programs to disappear, other programs needed disk access will fail (such as Azureus hash-checking, Nero, Newsleecher). Eventually Teracopy fails with ‘device no longer accessible’ for writing.
Jobs queued overnight are failing and causing major loss of my time, including *3* reboots today.
In some cases, 2 jobs are running at the same time instead of queuing (copy job then move job).
Other cases where move jobs are queued and waiting, they do not start once the current move job is completed.
Teracopy is important to me and one of the *very* few programs I have paid for in recent years..
PLEASE FIX ASAP.

garp99 : Could the blue screen of death be a problem with your disk controller driver having issues under heavy I/O? It is difficult for an application that does not install drivers to trigger a BSOD on its own.

TERACOPY seems to skip many Folders and Files and it does not give any appropriate reason as to why the file was skipped. It just tells that the Folder or File was not found on source. Strange isn’t is when you are dragging and dropping because TeraCopy itself is locating the Folders and Files in the source. I believe that TeraCopy is skipping all the folders and files with long path names or long file names. Does anyone know how how this can be avoided or how the long path name and/or long file name folders and files can be copied by using TeraCopy,
Your HELP will be highly appreciated

I am testing teracopy 2.06 these days and found several problems.
1.The program seems using virtual memory as buffer, but when I was copying many tiny size files(especially jpg file),the program took too much VM, meanwhile the speed is around 1m/s, even slower then explorer and it causes system down twice. when dealing with mid size 50m~2G, no problem, I think tera can take reference from killcopy and fastcopy, give users an option of sizing the buffer.
2.Better could support copy status sort so that we can easily find out the errors during copying progress.

I was really looking forward to this product with a backup I had upcoming and thinking of purchasing a copy until I started using it. I usually dread using the windows copy/paste/cross fingers bit.
After several failed attempts to xfer slightly less than 700GB from an internal RAID1 to an external eSATA drive on an extremely capable PC with a very stable Vista64 Ultimate installation only to have the program randomly stop repeatedly I gave up on it. And by “stop” I mean it simply would not move on unless I hit cancil. Telling it to “skip” the file it stopped on did nothing at all. Shame. To it’s benifit at least I knew what file it was on when it habitually choked. So you can add my name to the list of “Copy stops in the middle of operation” not fixed list.
I used the windows copy/paste… crossed my fingers and it tore through the nearly 700GB at about the same throughput as TC w/o issue. Go figure.
Oh.. and for that guy above whom brought up Supercopier… development seems to be back on track and there is a new version available. Sorry to be bringing this up on the TC forum.. but TC does not look to be a priority to the dev. at this time. Hope you get back on track soon as TC has potential IMHO.

Hi,
I am also experiencing the “copy stops” issue.
I really love TC, have tried alternative softwares, but none of them offers the “replace older only” option…
In the case the author doesn’t have enough time, what about release the software as open source, to allow this great tool to be further developed (at least, fixed) ?
Visting User on
Does the Pro version allow “Overwrite Different” as opposed to being limited to “Older.”?
I am looking for a tool that will replicate the directories and files in one folder to another folder over the LAN, but not copy every single file if there is no difference between the two.
This is necessary because often some non-meaningful and unnoticed events will update time stamps on the target machine files. Everything remains the same but it is enough to cause most utilities refuse to overwrite.
I have had numerous difficulties with the range of sync tools out there and would be much happier to achieve the purpose with TeraCopy.

No, it’s not fixed.
I’m moving big volumes, like saving from one backup disk to another. Lots of files (>200.000) and lots of GBs (50-200 per main directory). It always stops in the course of action. For bulk copies I choose (admittedly slower) otherware.

How can you guys at codesector post a fix for a bug that has kept me up for the last 36 hours, micromonitoring my transfers, without actually TESTING it! Forgive my impatience but this is a serious issue for large transfers and it has been around for far too long. It’s just embarrasing now. Please rectify this issue.
I like what your software is supposed to do – it ‘should’ save me days of worry while copying 4.7TB to a fresh set of drives.
Hi, I get this error when I try to opemn the application on win7 ultimate x64

How can I fix this?

Works great, I had the issue with Moving on a remote drive and not being able to stop it. the only thing I have found with this one is sometimes if I do a folder to folder move on the same drive with multiple files selected one file will be instantly done, ex like if only the directory information has been change, but the other files may actually be moved, I was moving multi-GB files.

Hello,
there is a new release of Total Commander 7.50a and so the File Managers Integration doesn’t works anymore.

Awsome! ‘nuf said!
Why does the installation of a new version of TeraCopy need to restart the computer in XP ?
can we get an option to bypass this newly installed window?
http://www.codesector.com/screenshots/tc-links.png
it seems redundant to me.
Ken, because it needs to update the files that are currently in use (loaded into memory).
Thanks!
please add a retry option for network copy
if you lose connection teracopy will keep trying even when the network share is down, and when its up again it will resume copy
can anyone or author verify this??this is a very important issue in teracopy..because we use TC to speed up file copy but now slowed down??
vin,
Just to let you know, it may not be the same on all systems. I’ve built a CAD$5000 computer, and before 2.01 I was getting around 90MB/sec — sometimes upwards of 100+MB/sec — transfer rates, and now like I posted about I am getting around 35MB/sec to 50MB/sec.
im using the latest stable.
i tried to move sims 3 razor1911 release iso file to another harddisk but it always gave error. i hope i dont see that error in this release.
sorry for the double post.
i found the problem. i couldnt move it because my destination harddisk was fat32. 😀 ok file size biggen than 4gb.
wreid problem, this 2.06 beta hangs for me in windows 7 7600 x64 2.05 beta was fine
2.05 beta = teracopy hehe
With the new window:
http://www.codesector.com/screenshots/tc-links.png
could we also get and option to make it default to the Move to function?
thanx
Any possibility of porting this to OSX? I use this on every PC I have, but there is nothing like it for OSX.
What about MULTILANGUAGE support ?
I ask to add support of other languages. It is ready to make a translation into Russian.
With 2.06 beta, when dragging files with SHIFT pressed, it copies the files instead of moving them. I don’t remember if the problem was present with earlier version.
And the “Teracopy” menu entry still appears in the explorer context menu even when “Add to explorer context menu” option is unticked.
Using Windows 7 x64.
The flashing on the XP taskbar of the recent versions of TeraCopy, when it needs more disk space, is highly annoying ! 🙁
Could you keep date/time of original files ?
Thanks
I ask to add support of other languages too. I can make a translation into Polish.
@Ken
Hi,
Got the same problem here with network (homeserver) to external usb drive.
Teracopy refuses to overwrite exe. files copied from one folder to another, even if it was ran under admin mode.
Hi, A answer, Teracopy 2.06b is compatible with Windows7 x64?
Thks..
I asked the same question with no reply. The website says its compatible, but it does NOT work for me. Basically TeraCopy installs ok but doesn’t seem to set itself as the default copy handler.
Hi, I’m using 2.06 beta on Windows 7 x64.
I have an error message when try to copy/move files to an protected (system) folder. Windows copy ask an elevation of privileges, but TeraCopy refuse to copy files.

xppro sp3.. (notebook 250g hdd) esata- to hdd
trying to coping files(from 250g hdd) to main hdd (backup)
stops 30%? just pauses.. 2.05 + 2.05 ..150000+ files 200g worth.
it stoped 3 times. put on 1.22, just finished ok..
and 1.22 is quicker copying..
bug still in 2.06 (and slower copying files.)
p.s .. check free space good.. verf option good.
in general i like the look+ feel of 2.06, . except for the slower copying + major bug free with lrge no of files..
+1
I tried it and it’s great, my only request is that when using multiple instances I think it will look better if the windows are arranged like in OSX (tiled as one big window) and not cascaded – hiding each other… thanx
Hi,
I love terracopy.
Please add a retry option again for copying.
Is it possible to make an test control option for hash md5. Now it’s only CRC.
V2.06 seems to be slower in copying.
Hi All,
I’ve been having some slowdowns lately withing windows..
Thanks

@Prasad
Hi Prasd..
Open teracopy so you can see a blank copy window.. Expand with “More” button.. Then youll see Menu>Options.. In Options set to register copy handler and use as default copy handler.. I also uncheck add to explorer context menu..
@Tommy
@yossi
I keep arguing this point, perhaps three users is enough.
I can alos confirm that B6 is slower than B5.
Copying large files (550meg+) files from one Raid0 setup to another Raid0
setup (different controllers as well) speed dropped from 80-100m/s to 50-60m/s. Using Win7 64bit.

Guys, a lot of your russian fans are waiting for language support.
Please, do it.
I have used TeraCopy Pro for a few months and thought I finally had a reliable tool for copying files.
However, just yesterday, when I tried to copy some files, I failed, encountering the “I/O Device error” message. Surprisingly, when I turn to use other software such as Fast Copy or Directory Opus, the copy process of these same files went through without any problem at all ?! (my Hard drives are all brand new – I also ran the HDD check software but found no errors at all!.
Anyone of you, guys, have the same issue like mine?
I’ve been using SuperCopier forever and it’s pretty much the perfect replacement for windows copy, it has queuing, re-ordering, pause, delete from queue, speed limits, resume from failure, and a whole lot of other amazing options. The only problem with it is that it’s no longer under development and it doesn’t work in Windows 7.
Teracopy is great, but it lacks some pretty basic features, so please take a look at SuperCopier, if you could incorporate all the features of it in to Teracopy you would have an awesome product.
very fast copy only with TERACOPY
2.06 beta tried to copy 250 Gb of data (tones of mp3 files) from 320GB drive to 1T drive – stopped on about 25%. Just gone to “pause” mode or froze. Both drives SATAII. Nvidia nForce 570 Ultra mobo.
I had same problem with Arthur. 250gb worth of data, paused at 30%, cancled, started again, it paused at 46%, now I’m at my third try.
Intel ich9r, moving btwn two sata ii hdd.
I really like the progress bar superimposed on the taskbar button in Windows 7. Nice touch – hope to see more in the future.
I am having the exact same problems as Arthur and sean. It’s almost useless to me until that problem is fixed.
Hey,
I don’t know how to contact you, but I suffered from data loss with Teracopy 2.01.
When I cut files in explorer and paste them elsewhere they sometimes disappear! Maybe you can fix that bug!
WOuld be great 🙂
I seem to often get a crash when creating multiple jobs (different window for each destination folder).
I get the modExcept Bug window that has the options for Continue/Restart/Close Application.
Creating a second job caused this window to open just 21 seconds later. Relevant data:
Operating System: Windows XP SP3 build 2600
Physical Memory: 1466/2022 MB (free/total)
Allocated memory: 12.32 MB
Command line: “C:\Program Files\Teracopy/teracopy.exe” Move *”C:\Docs…\Application Data\Teracopy\FileList.dat” ” V:\New”
Exception Number: 1
Exception Class: EStringListError
Thank you

The usual problem with one man software companies.
I know of many good programs that are 90% complete, but the developer lost interest. Can you blame them ? Copying and verifying files is not exactly the most exciting line of work. It is usually the sort of thing done by anonymous employees of MS. The difference here is that he charged money. Probably underestimated that amount of support that would be necessary…
@garp99
I get the exact same crash. I posted a bug report for it here:
http://bugs.codesector.com/viewissue.php?issue_no=70
I have been thinking of byuing TeraCopy Pro, but when i see the support of the program here that would be a big mistake…
If anyone has a copy of 2.0b22 or pre-2.01, please upload to Rapidshare and give us a link.
That version was working just fine but I can no longer work with the new versions.
Simply go to “http://www.filehippo.com/download_teracopy/” and find on the right hand side the list of previous versions. Select the version you want, and above the list will be a “download” link beside an icon.
Versions available found on that site are 2.01, 2.0, 1.22
When will the final version be released ?
TeraCopy is only copying or moving files at 25-35 MB/sec for me. Slower than Windows Vista Ultimate x64 itself. What’s happened ?
I’ve just tried with FastCopy on the same files and folders and the result is MUST better !
When will the final version be released ?
Aweesome guys keep updating this product

Has anyone else noticed the target folders being copied or moved with Teracopy 2.x ending up with messed up dates?
The created date is 100+ years in the future and in explorer Date Modified column shows blank. This also causes sorting to get messed up with folders showing halfway down mixed in between files.
I’ve only seen this on folders copied using teracopy, not the default windows handler.
It does seem that Jeff has abandoned TeraCOpy in favor of Android phone apps. I’m off to CopyHandler at sourceforge……
I had the same problem BBB had with the blank date in explorer.
Unfortunately, CopyHandler does not have a Test, and the test is the main reason that I use TeraCopy instead of Windows Copy.
Maybe he should remember that only a handful of people own an Android phone, whereas the vast majority of PCs out there use Windows…
2.06 is not functioning correctly. It frequently stops to move files in the middle of the list, and left files without delete after copy while moving files. I stop to use this version anymore.
@BBB
Oh yes. I filed bug #61 about 7 weeks ago, but no action on this bug so far.
I tried TeraCopy, and I like it a lot, but I’ve also tested its speed, and it is terrible. It is half as slow as Directory Opus, or Windows 7 Explorer.
@Anonymous
This was reported way before you did. I read a post about it and confirmed the presence of the bug to the author.

Hello.
Very good program, I will never stop to use it, but one thing is really missing very urgently, very unfortunatly there is no little sound on an error. there is a sound in finish, thats a good thing, but when the copyprogress stops by any reason, even by a dialogue, the minimized or not-on-top-teracopy-window keeps quite in the background, till I randomly remember to check about the copystatus, what can be last hours.
Please integrate a warning sound, thanks!
@Chris
Yeah I posted a powershell script to the bug to fix up these 1600s and 2700s dates LOL
Sorry about the long delay, there was a deadline with Android app. Will get back to TeraCopy in a few days.
I really enjoyed developing for Android comparing to Windows. A bit tired of fighting with this system. TC & DF are the only reasons that keeps me from switching to Mac completely.
Nice to know that the developer is still alive…
Does the Pro version allow “Overwrite Different” as opposed to being limited to “Older.”?
I am looking for a tool that will replicate the directories and files in one folder to another folder over the LAN, but not copy every single file if there is no difference between the two.
This is necessary because often some non-meaningful and unnoticed events will update time stamps on the target machine files. Everything remains the same but it is enough to cause most utilities refuse to overwrite.
I have had numerous difficulties with the range of sync tools out there and would be much happier to achieve the purpose with TeraCopy.
Hello,
there is a new release of Total Commander 7.50a and so the File Managers Integration doesn’t works anymore.
It’s working fine here for me on Vista Business 32Bit, copy/move Icons are there & work.
@ Jeff – any ETA on the next Beta?
PS – I am using teracopy 2.06 Beta & Total Commander 7.50a
Could you please add an option to use the regular progress bar (as in v1.x) instead of the new one (v2.x)? The new one doesn’t fit the rest of the vista/win7 UI no matter the colors chosen.
I know cosmetic changes are not of high priority but it’s done way faster than all the high priority stuff
Hello! I want ask you, will you add in teracopy hide to tray or not? It will be great. And second idea: if, example, read error – icon change color, maybe in red and user see that some is going wrong. Thanx!
@Logan
Thanks for the info, with a reinstallation I could solve the problem.
