    I’m a customer. You can verify by my e-mail.
    I’m very disappointed that your company doesn’t have a fix to the false-positives that some Anti-Virus software generate when installing TeraCopy.

    I know you’re asking people to contact the Anti-Virus vendor, but I work for a huge organization (Fortune 20), and I don’t have the ability to get TeraCopy excluded, or have a special Anti-Virus signature written for it.

    Why is it that TeraCopy makes most AV software so suspicious in the first place?
    Have you investigated ALL AVENUES of trying to resolve this?

    I literally paid for a piece of software that I can’t use.

    Thanks

    -Ronny

    I feel dissapointed when i want to over-write something in Windows 7…always appears a error…i can’t over-write any file in C:/ …bad for that.

    http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/0ebc770faefd76...

    Result: 6/40 (15%)

    Authentium: W32/Heuristic-210!Eldorado
    AVG: Win32/Heur
    CAT-QuickHeal: (Suspicious) – DNAScan
    F-Prot: W32/Heuristic-210!Eldorado
    McAfee-GW-Edition: Heuristic.LooksLike.Win32.Suspicious.K!89
    Rising: Packer.Win32.UnkPacker.d

    Only 6 of 40 anti-viruses “think” that the file may be infected (heuristic/suspicious). Rising thinks that it’s a packer and it’s correct. TeraCopy is packed with Obsidium for protection and registration key management.

    Looks like some viruses was packed with Obsidium too and above AV companies added its signature as dangerous.

    Please contact me, I’ll try to make a custom version for you.

    Thanks Jeff.
    I’m on McAfee. It doesn’t detect it with the same words that are in your post, but it does think it’s malware and quarantines the exe.

    What’s your e-mail?
    I’m at RonnyNussbaum ##at## gmail ##dot##com.

    I understand your concerns, however maybe there should be an unpacked version available for registered users, or maybe an alternate download source that can be traced to the downloader?
    For example, there could be an executable that allows you to download the unpacked version after submitting the user’s information in an encrypted way. That way you could see that Ronny just downloaded the unpacked version.

    Great now that the copy starts immediately. It would be nice if the teracopy window starts minimized as an icon so it doesn’t take any screen space. Even running as a service would be fine.

    Guys, is there any reason that after TC installation it appears NOT in the center of my screen, but at the top somewhere. In MY case I can solve this by using an alignment function of a software I use (called AWM), but how do you expect others to center it on the middle of the screen (as far as I know that is how homo sapiens prefer it)? Manually?

    So after I center it with some help it saves and stays in that position, but it would be nice to have it aligned in the middle and centered by default.

    can teracopy or other Apps (perhaps teramerge!)do this:
    by right click merge contents of multiple folders(more than 2) in single folder which its new name will be foldername1&foldername2&…
    and for files by identical name ask to: replace, replace all, rename, rename all?

    Hate to be cynical, but considering the cyber war going on this last month, I would not be surprised if Codesector has been hit by some of those malwares. If you were a bad guy, it would be particularly brilliant to implement all your malware into a windows copy application!!

    It’s terrible that when I pass the file through online virus scanners, they find Teracopy infected. I don’t feel confort to install the software. Why should somebody buy the software to support the developers if even the developers don’t care to solve this issue?

    even GDATA found something: Win32:Malware-gen and supposedly GDATA is like the top AV.

    And it’s not just the current release that has this issue… I’ve followed this from some past versions too. There’s a bit of a history of virus/malware in Teracopy and the lack of a solution makes me consider Teracopy to be shady.

    @Roy, @lethedoom,
    TeraCopy is not a virus. The way it’s packed as explained below makes some AV software suspect it.

    The problem that I have (and still got no resolution for, despite being a CUSTOMER) is that I can’t modify my corporation’s AV software. It is what it is, and it is McAfee.
    I bought the software and now I’m screwed.

    I find it funny the commercial anti-virus suites tag teracopy.. It just doesn’t work like Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE)… I love MSE.. I was running without AV etc for years..

    As for Teracopy 2.12.. Working very well when comp is under full load.. Good bug fixes.. Keep up good work.. Seems as fast to initialize as standard windows copying..

    Feature Request
    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    Hi there,
    I don’t know if the feature has been requested already: I would like to be able to remove files from the queue while TC is copying. This would be useful for big files and when one realises they don’t want to copy a specific file. In other word, I would like to be able to ‘uncheck’ a file from a list so it is skipped.
    Regards
    Musa
    whenever i use teracopy over my usb hardisk and i put usb to another mecanic (some times i can use my usb port to charge my cell phone) its disconnect and reconnect guess its windows problem but whenever its all back normaly it refuse to work. i tryed to skip file , pause , continue etc. etc. it wont continoue just hang up and no answer any of my command. i want to fix this bug as soon as possible. otherwise i have to start over and recopy again…
    and lastly whenever i move my files some times its drop some empty folder to source , move to second time i move again to target folders successed. so i want this fix too because i dont want to see emtpy clustered folder to my source drive beacause of my move operation.
    Happy work,
    Sincerely…
    I learned TeraCopy just now. It is fine and speedy. Excellent the behavior in case of reading errors and excellent also the testing function. (Copy and Compare and show every difference.)
    I have no idea how to use TeraCopy portable. But this is not that important.
    TeraCopy is a very good help to keep the original directory dates (when was created a specific directory). Windows Explorer changes the date (date of copy = date when directory was created).
    One problem of TeraCopy:
    TeraCopy changes the archive bit to set from not set. Eventually – I did not find out – TeraCopy changes the attributes of files.
    I would like to have a solution which changes NOTHING (like this was with xcopy32 in some versions of WIN98. Do you have any idea which program I could use (the Copy function on KnoppixCD is such a solution but it is a bit complicated to use always Knoppix).
    Thank you for TeraCopy and any additional help.
    Please excuse my weak English.
    All the best – Johann
    January 23rd, 2010 at 07:17 | #32
    @Anon
    Anon: I don’t know. Are you suggesting that the problem is mine to solve?
    I *bought* a product, and I can’t use it because it’s protected with a piece of software that’s detected as a virus. Several Anti-Virus software detect it as such.
    You’re saying that I need to spend time opening tickets with my AV provider to fix this?
    *I* need to do this?
    What if I can’t do that?-which is really my case.
    I’m an end-user in a huge corporation, and I can’t contact the corporation’s AV software provider (McAfee). I don’t have an account with them…I can’t represent the company.
    What should I do?
    January 23rd, 2010 at 17:30 | #34
    @Ronny
    Actually yes, most AV users are expected to submit samples and false positives to the AV provider. There are so many software out there, surely you can’t expect the AV to be tested against all of them.
    I understand the situation that you are in, but I am curious why you should be in this situation in the first place. Did you not at least test out Teracopy before purchasing it?
  35. Ronny
    January 23rd, 2010 at 17:52 | #35
    @Anon
    Well, I guess we’re in disagreement then. I bought a lot of software titles in my life, and this is the first time ever that I find myself in this situation. It’s only because the author insists on using a wrapper around the executable that masks the code in some way. This is done to avoid piracy. Well guess what? I’m not a pirate, and I’m punished.
    I did test it with CA before, but my organization recently changed to McAfee and then things hit the fan.
    Would your reply be different if this was not a try-before-you-buy kind of software, or are you saying that no matter what kind of software I buy-if it’s not working then the burden is on me to handle it with the AV software vendor?
    After doing some testing, I’m really sure TeraCopy installer (downloaded through codesector) is clean. Sometimes software is “tricky” but “manytimes” AV do the same things, that’s the big difference between human and machine =)
    Ok, this’s the simple steps:
    1. If you can’t download TeraCopy, disable AV protection/web shield temporary
    2. After download completed (keep disable AV protection), just run TeraCopy installer till finished
    3. Then added TeraCopy installatin directory (:\Program Files\TeraCopy\) to your AV exclude list
    NB: if you don’t know how to added files to exclude list, just search it on google =)
    @Ronny
    Well I guess we agree to disagree then. I think the problem is that I am from the IT sector so I understand things from the developers point of view.
    Anyway I can think of a few things you could try:
    1) Submit the teracopy file to the AV provider hoping it will whitelist it. Maybe from home if you use the same AV and this feature is not provided at the work place.
    2) Hope that teracopy will be changed (Not likely, look at its development history)
    3) Try one of the alternatives from the front page link (http://lifehacker.com/5283734/hive-five-winner-for-best-alternative-file-copier-teracopy)
    Just a little heads up to regular users of TeraCopy, if you start your computer in Safe Mode you can gain a performance increase of 60% to 100% in copying speeds. Just hit F8 after your computer POSTs.
    Musa,
    I’m trying to get a solution from the author of the software.
    If I get nothing, I already found a way to remove Obsidium using tools freely available on the Internet.
    Obsidium is supposed to prevent debuggers from running through the code, but there are already scripts out there to allow debuggers to run through the code using Olly Debugger.
    This is only last resort, but it’s totally doable.
    Same exact problem as described January 19th, 2010 at 04:37 | #3 Reply | Quote by Jeff. Mcafee quarantined teracopy pro faster than you could blink an eye…Also sent an email about the ridiculous, nebulous steps needed to install teracopy pro after purchasing it. You can’t download the product without buying it….I can not find one spot on your site to download an application listed as teracopy pro, nor can I see any place to enter 9 line Hash to activate. By the way, the free copy of teracopy loaded with no errors from McAfee…
    And what up with this OPUS thing…you open the file and the directions there are almost as nebulous and unitutitive and trying to register your copy and upgrade to the TC Pro….There is no directory named OPUS and I can find no place to copy the files to????
  54. January 26th, 2010 at 04:18 | #54
    I think that to apply the Pro license you have to go to the about window with the hash copied on the clipboard.
    January 26th, 2010 at 04:22 | #55
    @Ronny – The normal procedure in most large corporations is to submit the issue to the corporate helpdesk. They have the service contract with the vendor and will submit the executable as a false positive for you. That is their roll, assuming you’re allowed to use that software on their systems and they won’t yell at you for asking ;-)
    Even if not, you have other options, Mcafee allows submissions of false positives as described here-> http://community.mcafee.com/message/6645#6645
    So you can submit yourself (as can the author.) The submission options are easy enough.
    Typically false positives don’t last long when one shows up in a mainstream AV product. Even if you do nothing it is likely to be resolved in short order. Just bad luck and bad timing.
    I LOVE this program. My only complaint about this product is TINY! The version number reported on the TeraCopy.exe file is not the actual version of the product. For example, I just installed 2.12 and More, Menu, About reflects this. But, right click on the executable and do a properties, it reports to be 2.01.
    This is important, because I try to keep all the PC’s on my home network with the same version. I have a program that looks at executables and reports back so I can see which PC’s I need to update.
    It would be a nice touch.
    Thanks
    Why are you idiots using crap Anti-virus software? I am a free version user of Teracopy. I cannot believe a Fortune 20 company uses Mcafee. Your IT team sucks. Get them to buy the best Antivirus software for your company, AVIRA that is.
    There have been at least 3 specials that gave 50% off already, and you missed them all.
    But I guess we are idiots (your words. Very mature).
    Why did you replace the mouse over drop down on the Explorer context menu???
    The newer method needs TWO extra mouse clicks.
    Version 2.00b4 was the last one to do it!!
    Thank you for this great piece of software.
    it’s pretty fast and a real alternative to the slow standard windows API copy function.
    I’ve tested almost all the other alternative file copiers and I stick to TeraCopy mainly because it works fast and has a pretty UI and a nice explorer implementation.
    Total Commander and Directory Opus are supported file managers,
    could you please also add FreeCommander which many people are using?
    Thanks
    I asked this once before, and it was never answered, so I am asking again, and I’ll keep asking until I get an answer because there is no info about it on the online help site. So, under:
    Menu > Options
    What does “Use system write cache” do?
    Sometimes Teracopy can’t close after it work finally.
    When I force to close Teracopy, it will cause USB Safely Remove broken.
    When I start to use USB Safely Remove, windows will show error message.
    Why? Even through, after reboot, it is no use.
    It is described in the thread where the option was originally introduced a few months back. It should be easy to find for anyone who is willing to do their own work, instead of asking other people to do everything for them.
    @Ronny
    Hi Ronny, I wasn’t using teracopy for quite a while as I move up to the Win7 pretty early. Hence I missed all the big discounts. You said you are in IT, does the IT guys in your company know the existence of the term ‘dectction rate’ among AV software. You do some research and tell me where Mcafee ranks. I am not in IT, I am in a small company’s eCommerce role, but I started using computers since I was kid. MS did nothing solving their shitty copy function. The richcopy shit they come up with isn’t going to cut it for the end-user.
    Did you try using the portable version?
  82. Edgar
    February 4th, 2010 at 21:43 | #82
    Hmmm….version 2.1 still stalls while copying large (256 Gb) amounts of data.
    Close will keep it in memory, a very hard kill is necessary to remove from memory
    Uninstalled and copy went perfectly fine with default Windows 7 transfer.
    Any experience with this? It was supposed to be eliminated.
    I like this program. But sometimes it doesn’t preserve the time and date stamps of the source folders. Once in a while (a bit too frequently), the time and date stamp of a destination folder is the time and date when the copy was done instead of the source folder’s time and date stamp.
    This was written by Night Owl in another forum.Me(Valerio) has also the same problem,but using the v.2.01. I copied 2 folders(1 got the right creation date in 2008 and the second one got todays date even if it has been created in 2009).
    Thanks for a fast and reliable copier. Although I have tried TC on and off for a few versions recently it has proven more useful however it could really do with an option to set the retry delay as well as the number of retries. I ended up setting the retries to 1000 when using a VPN as it was prone to drop outs of a few seconds. If the delay between retries could be set then rather than setting retries in the thousands it could have the default 5 attempts but with a n second delay which would be better.
    Ronny :I’m a customer. You can verify by my e-mail.I’m very disappointed that your company doesn’t have a fix to the false-positives that some Anti-Virus software generate when installing TeraCopy.
    I know you’re asking people to contact the Anti-Virus vendor, but I work for a huge organization (Fortune 20), and I don’t have the ability to get TeraCopy excluded, or have a special Anti-Virus signature written for it.
    Why is it that TeraCopy makes most AV software so suspicious in the first place?Have you investigated ALL AVENUES of trying to resolve this?
    I literally paid for a piece of software that I can’t use.
    Thanks
    Ronny :@Anon I’m in the IT industry as well.I think that removing that packer is my only option, and I found a way to do it.(kinda shows you that there’s no point in using Obsidium in the first place…)I just hate that I’d need to do that every time a new version comes out.
    I work at Symantec in the Symantec office. Teracopy works fine and installs fine. No positives of any kind. Many other work mates here also use it without issues. I also use it on a machine with Avira installed. No issues there. So speak to your AV software vendor as it is simply a false positive which needs to be fixed by the AV provider and not by Teracopy developer. No idea why you are complaining it to the developer.
    With regards to how the app is provided…
    Why not provide the provide the installation source as an MSI? A little packaging knowledge would allow for a fault free install\uninstall and remove the need (under certain circumstances) to ‘go clicking’ .reg files to get features to work.
    On another couple of points:
    1. The long existing bug with files being copied but not removed from the source after a move operation still exists
    2. The problem with teracopy getting stuck while multiple copy\move operations are pending (fixed temporarily by deleting the ‘processes’ file in the teracopy config folder) still exists after several releases.
    Is there any chance that these will be fixed anytime soon?
